There hasn't been much discussion on Lake. He seems at least a couple of weeks off it for mine.

I am not a fan of people exaggerating something little they have seen first hand but I didn't like Lake's reactions to comments from Bourke (defensive coach). Bourke politely mentioned something about Lake losing track of his opponent at times and Lake was very 'because this and that' in the resulting convo. It wasn't in a rude tone at all, he just seems to have the Aker/West-Dog vibe of never really thinking he is wrong/everyone else must be. If someone else was in the quarter time huddle, please feel free to correct me if I misheard/exaggerated it.

He certainly appears to be going through the motions and 2 weeks more at the VFL seems about right but I guess form on the field won't be a deciding factor because it will be more about what he does on the training track.

        Reserves:

Panos - played in the forward line but often pushed well up the ground. Wasted some kicking chances but tackled hard and contributed over the 4 quarters.

Tom Hill - Played as a key forward and went into the ruck. Looked impressive early with his marking up forward but had a quiet 3rd quarter before copping an injury to his leg.

Johannisen - Very pacy and has good skills but he wasn't overly noticeable.

Veszpremi - Started slowly up forward and looked out of it at times before settling in well and getting stronger as the game wore on. Easily the best player on the ground. He spent a lot of time in the midfield and was strong in the contests also putting in some vigorous tackling efforts. Kicked 5 goals and should be moved straight back into the seniors on that performance.

Prato - Fantastic leap and won a lot of hit outs but I didn't rate his efforts around the ground and he struggles to read the play. He isn't making the sort of progress he should be.

I'll do something on the seniors later.

          Yep.

How much of it is due to fitness and how much is due to attitude? I know it could mean deeper issues but I hope it's the latter. If he is doing well on the training track and it's a can't be bother with VFL but would be motivated at AFL level than I hope we don't cut our nose to spite our face.

Would also have to agree with you on this.

His commanding of the ball is just not happening for him yet. What is unacceptable is Brian allowing his man to drop off without picking him up and with some urgency.

How much of it is because he feels he's not worthy of VFL standard I'm not sure. He looks lost to the structure as if the game plan should centre around Brian. On leadership and attitude alone he appears a long way off it and for mine is what we we need him to address which possibly goes to Rocco's qtr time point.

Maybe he is finding it hard playing back thus having to make body contact and his knee and hip or whatever are sore, playing up forward he can avoid it a little.
Or maybe the back structure at Willy is different to the Bulldogs and less experienced backs arent doing what Morris and Hargrave can do?

In regards to Lake I think you only have to look at a players body language to know whats going on in there head.
Seems to be sulking a little or he has just lost his passion to play. Will be interesting to see how they handle him over the next few weeks.
Would love to know how his contract is structured because he probably is getting full pay regardless. I hope there is some incentive in there to play x amount of senior games.

                    Asylum - yes good points
I saw some vision of Lake in the backline last night on TV. Even in that short clip, got a sense of what you are on about.
So, would you say that for a certain player, going into the VFL is a waste of time?
I'm not sure what else to do, but for a certain type, languishing in the VFL is just going to affect their confidence and cause issues. Maybe it's better to bring it to a head sooner or later. I'm afraid Brian already probably has thoughts of another club on his mind, because that's the sulking mentality.

He still has another 2 years left to run on his contract after this season concludes.

Re: Williamstown Round 8 Vs Collingwood

                        Seniors:

The game was really split between the 2 halves with a far better output by our players after half time. German obviously read them the riot act and they responded.
It's hard to be overly positive when for 50% of the game a lot of our players weren't up to the standard.

Wallis - I liked his game but he certainly wasn't a star. He has poise and balance but yesterday he seemed to struggle a little to get into the flow of the game. He also occasionally seemed to struggle to find the right option which made him look hesitant. Still he got enough of it.

Hahn - Had another solid outing and this is shaping up as a good season for Mitch. Kicked 3 goals and held a few marks.

Reid - Quiet first half and like so many others got a bit better in the 2nd. Hard to see if he can get himself into the mix for a promotion.

Lake - We all love Brian but as others have indicated he didn't seem switched on again yesterday.

Roughead - a solid contribution but a terrible injury that might see him sidelined for a while.

Schofield - Down on form again but he did take a great mark up forward and convert his chance. He does use the ball better than most but it's not a penetrating kick.

Mulligan - Solid but unspectacular and like so many others his work rate after half time was better. He might be regarded as one of the better players but he doesn't win a lot of the ball.

Djerrkura - Struggled to get into the game and for every noticeable thing he did yesterday it would be offset with being caught or with a turnover. Average day.

Tutt - Did some terrific things including a smart goal on the run with his left foot and also made some poor errors including getting run down in the 2nd quarter when he basically just stopped running and showed no awareness for opposition players.

Dahlhaus - Solid 4 quarter contribution and provided plenty of run.

                        Hooper - Quiet game

Barlow - Played mainly as a forward and kicked the opening goal for Willy. Solid game as a mobile tall forward.

Cordy - Was certainly quiet in the first half before having a good 3rd quarter and even better last quarter when he had to cover Roughead. He made a few errors in the first half including giving away a 50 mtr penalty that resulted in a goal

Hill - I liked his game yesterday but like so many others there was some good things undone but some poor ones. I had him in the better players for us on the day but will it be enough for a recall?

Hall - Took a while to get into it but was very good in the marking contests and despite some wayward kicking for goals I think everyone would be happy he got through the game without incident.

It's a shoulder injury which given his history can't be a good thing.

If Markovic or Williams were to get injured tomorrow, who comes into the team vs Hawthorn, Lake or Mulligan based on form?
I mean the obvious answer from an experience and capability perspective is Lake but is he mentally ready to play on Roughead or Franklin?
