    Lynch eyes AFL dream

FORMER Western Bulldogs midfielder Malcolm Lynch appears to be on the way to rekindling a career after being delisted at the end of 2009.

The 23-year-old was cut after three seasons on the Bulldogs' list mainly due to injuries.

The speedy midfielder and goal sneak is clearly on the radar for AFL recruiters and would be among the early front runners for the VFL's highest individual honour, the Liston Trophy.

Lynch has greatly improved in his second season at Port Melbourne. He wanted to play VFL because he believed he had the potential to play AFL but his body didn't allow him at the Bulldogs and he played just two AFL matches.

"I think last year I was very adamant and wanting to get back into it [AFL]," Lynch said. ''But I think this year, I haven't really made it my focus but I've just got back to enjoying my footy and I think that's helped.

"I've just gone back to the basics and enjoying my footy and it's definitely showing and obviously as a team we're going well so hopefully that can continue."

Port coach Gary Ayres said Lynch was able to play as a full-time midfielder - although he worked in retail off the field.

It'll be interesting to see if any club gives him another go. Injuries restricted him during his time at the Bulldogs, but his level of commitment was continually questioned too.

Any chance he could come back to the bulldogs, or the bulldogs want him back?
He would still have his friends in Hill & Stack and will Goodes being there.

      Thoughts?

He always had potential and we picked him before Harbrow so we must have seen something in him.

I'd be surprised. We gave him 3 years so we obviously thought there was something there, but at the same time 3 years isn't particularly long to give a young player before delisting them if you genuinely thought they had what it took at AFL level.

That photo was taken about 5 years ago.

Not sure this will be true in 2012...

I can see GWS giving him another chance.

Delisted today after one season without playing a game.

Wasn't he on the Rookie list? North delisted three rookies, but not sure if any of the Rookies got a chance, ie an upgrade this year, so no opportunities.

I wonder if he'll end up back at Port Melbourne, he played some good footy there last year.
