Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Grant has a shot after the siren to win the game and misses = winnable game.

Look, they probably played their guts out and gave it their all, but just like the Bulldogs, Willy struggles to close out the tight ones.

Fair enough. The Bulldogs listed players are all kids bar Hahn and Gilbee, Willi has enough senior players in Johnson, Davies, Jolley etc to help drag them over the line. Hahn kicked 4, Gilbee was (listed as) best on ground, and 4 of our kids got in the best players. It looks to me like our boys played their part and that's exciting . But yes disappointing to hear Grant could have won the game and missed.

Ran into Mitch Hahn tonight, asked about the Grant shot. Simple response "you'd expect an afl player to kick it". Apparently straight forward shot 40 out which he missed. Obviously disappointed with the result sand north ballarat seem to have the wood over us.

A few of the boys out including Bazza, coons, lake, hargrave and hahn.

Did Gilbee play on Thomas? How could he kick 9?

Grant isnt even playing like a senior VFL player at the moment

Grant and Vezpremni need to both have HUGE preseasons. Both are currently grossly limited by their engines and there is only 1 way to develop that.

Seeing as though Gilbee was named Willi's best player you would have to think that he didn't play on Thomas.

Seagulls come up short in Ballarat

Williamstown has fallen short in its bid to break its North Ballarat hoodoo, going down by 2 points at Eureka Stadium on Saturday. Forward Jarrad Grant had a shot after the siren to win the game for the visitors but it faded right to the disappointment of the travelling Seagulls supporters. North Melbourne forward Lindsay Thomas was the difference between the two sides on the day, kicking 9.2 in a best on ground performance. For the Seagulls Ayce Cordy, Lukas Markovic and Jason Tutt impressed in the narrow loss.

The script couldn’t have started better for the Gulls with Christian Howard kicking the opening goal of the match with a beautiful goal on the run as the Gulls came out of the blocks hard. North Ballarat replied through Lachlan George who was also awarded a bizarre second shot on goal having been brought to the ground as he kicked the ball. He duly converted from the goal square leaving everyone scratching their heads about the “double goal”.

The game was building as a fantastic contest between two quality sides, the midfield battle between Minson, Johnson, Jolley and Wallis and Stephenson, Sewell, Garlett and Atley was crucial to the game with neither midfield allowed to get on top. There were worrying signs early for the Seagulls as Lindsay Thomas kicked two opening quarter goals however a goal on the siren gave the Seagulls a slender 5 point lead at the first break.

North Ballarat had the aid of a slight breeze in the second quarter as they once again looked dangerous with Thomas the focal point up forward. Mitch Hahn was proving a worry for the Roosters defence kicking 4 goals for the game. Lindsay Gilbee was instrumental stemming the flow down back as the Gulls managed to restrict the margin to 4 points at half time.

The see-sawing nature of the contest continued in the third quarter with the Gulls stretching out to a 14 point margin at one stage, what would turn out to be the biggest margin of the game. However another 3 Thomas goals ensured that all would be to play for in the last quarter with Williamstown heading in with their noses slightly in front by a point at the last change.

With all to play for, the quality of the game stepped up even another notch with both teams desperate to win. When North Ballarat got out to a 9 point lead late in the quarter the game looked beyond the Seagulls reach but a Jason Tutt goal gave a glimmer of hope and then with no more than 15 seconds on the clock the Gulls went coast-to-coast from a North Ballarat behind with the ball ending up in Jarrad Grant’s hands as the siren sounded. 50 metres out but directly in front Grant’s kick was not to be as the Roosters held on for another win against the Seagulls.

Back to the Ayce Cordy issue (was that this week or the week before?)
Whose position can you see him playing if he gets a game this year?
He seems too small to do significant time in the ruck, and i can't see him playing unless they play him like they did Jones, with Minno or Hudson doing nearly all the ruck work.
But Roughy has earned his place in the team and i want him to play out the year, so maybe over a Barlow or someone and leave him as a forward or back with only the smallest of ruck work?

His best games for Willi this year have actually been at CHB with brief stints in the ruck, its probably the easiest place on the ground for us to give a young guy a game at the moment.
