Re: Rd 22 - Franston v Williamstown
Tall defender who played TAC Cup last year who is playing some reasonable footy after an injury affected first half of the season.
Pretty sure he was on our radar last year for a rookie list spot, but he was one of the kids who didn't check out well medically.
In hindsight we probably should have just bitten the bullet and selected him as it's open slather now.Comment

Seagulls Shape up for Finals
Williamstown enters the VFL final series in winning form after beating Frankston comfortably by 93 points at Frankston Oval. The Dolphins headed into the game after a big upset win over Coburg the week before and were full of confidence in front of their home crowd. After a tight first quarter with Frankston loading numbers behind the ball, the visiting side were able to break free after quarter time, scoring goals frequently.
The Seagulls amassed 38 scoring shots kicking goals regularly after half time to cement 2 nd spot on the ladder and secure a Qualifying Final against North Ballarat on Sunday. Nathan Giles, Andrew Hooper, Zeph Skinner and Brennan Stack were all added to the side that beat Box Hill last week with Nathan Giles making his debut for the Club.
Frankston made use of a strong breeze in the first quarter, restricting the Gulls to just three goals whilst kicking three themselves. They showed the energy and work rate that helped them beat Coburg the previous week taking a 3 point lead into the first change.
With the breeze in the second quarter the Gulls began to gain the momentum and create scoreboard pressure. A 6 goal to one quarter saw Matthew Panos convert in front of goal on his way to a 6 goal haul. The work rate of Sam Reid, Ben Jolley and Brett Goodes creating many opportunities up forward with the likes of Dane Rampe and Jack Frost holding the fort defensively down back. The Gulls took a 35 point lead into the main change.
The third quarter saw Frankston again have the assistance of the breeze however they failed to use it as well with Williamstown restricting them to just the three goals whilst scoring 5 themselves. Matthew Panos continued to show the way up forward, ably assisted by Mitch Hahn continuing on from his good form last week. Lindsay Gilbee was creating plenty of drive from the back half as the Seagulls fought ways to slice open the Frankston defence.
Another 6 goal to nothing quarter with the wind in the last amounted to a 93 point win by the visitors, finishing with a 14-4 record for the home and away season. The real stuff starts now though as Williamstown faces North Ballarat in a massive clash at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday at 2pm.
Frankston 3.6 3.8 6.8 6.9 (45) Williamstown 3.3 9.7 14.12 20.18 (138)
GOALS: Williamstown: Panos 6 Hahn 2 Howard 2 Gilbee 2 Carr Hooper Wallis Reid Johnson Cravino Grossman Goodes
BEST: Williamstown: Goodes Hahn Gilbee Reid Jolley Frost
Development Report:
Williamstown has recorded their biggest win of the season beating Frankston by 265 points. Jack Purton-Smith and Tom Hill were amongst the goals as the Gulls dominated the match from start to finish. Jake Wilson, Cam Lockwood, Kwame McHarg and Nick Sing were all impressive in a game where most players stood out. The Development Squad now have a week off before facing the winner of Casey and Coburg in a sudden death preliminary final in two weeks.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Re: Rd 22 - Franston v Williamstown
Wonder if it was at the Bulldogs request to get him down to Williamstown this year? Big lump of a kid by the lloks of him, is there potential there to turn him into a key defender?Tall defender who played TAC Cup last year who is playing some reasonable footy after an injury affected first half of the season.

Re: Rd 22 - Franston v Williamstown
Most key position players in the AFL (forward or back) played their junior footy as forwards because the best tall players generally get put forward in junior teams (which is why it's 'rare' to find a quality tall who played back in their junior career and already knows how to play back -- ie. a 'natural backman' which is sometimes seen as a 'plus'). Doesn't mean a whole lot at senior level.Comment

Re: Rd 22 - Franston v Williamstown
I like what I have seen of Frost.
As bornadog mentioned, we have a heap of Dogs who have qualified to play finals for Willy. Any idea who will play or be rested? Do we still have a spilt? I think it's 14-8.
Here's a stab at the side Willy can go with after we have finished up
B- Stretton, Markovic, Stack
HB- Schofield, Frost, Addison
C- Tutt, Johnson, DJ
HF- Goodes, Hahn, Hill
F- Dahlhaus, Grant, Roughead
R- Minson, Jolley, Liberatore
I/C- Rampe, Howard, Wallis, Hooper, Reid
I know I have gone with too many Dogs but not sure who to drop! That's a very strong state league side.Comment
