    The Phil Scully Draft Bonanza

We are still a few weeks away from the draft day but I was wondering who do you think we might select in the draft which with our first two picks?

You don't have to be as good at talent identification as Phil Scully but fire away.

First up I havent done a lot of research but here goes

We always seem to like getting players from SA so I think it might be Mitchell Grigg with our first pick.

Next up we need a key defender and Andrew Boseley would fit that need.

Taylor, McKenzie or Markworth for our first pick(not that I have much idea) and I hope we end up with one of the Frost boys(either or both, it wouldn't bother me).

In order to build a strong club you have to surround yourself with excellent assistants.

Firstly if I was Phil I’d go for:

Justin Biebers' parents: Consultants to spending your famous sons money correctly
Macaulay Culkins' parents: How not to let your famous son go off the rails.

Other assistants can be sorted at monthly board meetings when extra funds are granted.

The players will just come naturally

This is my point in practice, well done assistant BAS. Phil would be hoping that Tom doesn't head down this path but you must have all contingencies covered.

I'm getting nervous we'll get spooked into recruiting Waylen Manson with our first pick.

Our list has a lot of needs and consequently we should be picking the best players available at least with our first 2 picks. I don't mind if it's a, ruckman, speedy midfielder, key forward or back. Just pick the best.

We can look to address needs with our later picks, the PSD and rookie drafts.

Can we for once not pick speculative types from minor leagues who might one day be able to kick or catch a football. I want a common sense approach to recruiting. Guys who have proven they can play at the elite junior level or a youngish proven performer in the major state leagues.

I would like to see us go into this draft with a minimum of 4 selections and 1 other to use in the PSD or a 5th pick in the ND.

Agree with all this (no surprise there). I would save the 5th pick for the PSD - the draft nominees will still be there and there might be a late contract issue somewhere else we can take advantage of.

                  Doc,

What players might interest you in with our first two picks?

For our 2nd rounder I'm keen on Jordon Murdoch from SA but I haven't quite worked out who we should go for in the first round.

I'd suggest we need a speedster but I'm still not sure who that should be.

To be honest I'm not really sure this year on who I'd like with our first pick as I can't identify a clear stand out. I mentioned elsewhere I would love to get a ruckman so if Longer were to slip through I'd go for him. However, I'm not convinced there is another ruckman worthy of our first rounder. Perhaps at our 2nd pick.

I don't mind the need for speed approach others have been suggesting which could bring Markworth into it or perhaps Taylor Adams or devon Smith. Probably Adams.

I note your comments on Murdoch. One question, would you entertain the idea of a Markworth & Murdoch combo with our first 2 picks?

Assume you are referring to the Skinner pick here. If not, / who / Which others?

                        Skinner yes.

                        A few others that come to mind;

                        Thorne, Prato, Mulligan, Ogle, O'Shea

I'm a fan of Markworth but I think we might focus more on the genuine midfield option more than Markworth who is a forward capable of doing some midfield work. That being said, picking up two mobile forwards like Markworth and Murdoch could set us up over the longer term.

From a list perspective we have many needs and we won't address them in one draft.
Taking two mids makes sense, taking a mid and a forward also makes sense and finally a ruckman and a mid also works for me. In saying all that we need a key defender as well.
Taking two forwards is probably the most risky option but I'm not opposed to it if we get genuine footballers.

Adams is quick and can play so he would be tempting and landing someone like Nelson with the 2nd pick would be a great outcome.

I would like to think we will take an inside/outside quick mid with very good foot skills with our first pick then a tall defender with our 2nd pick.
Thereafter, I would look at a ruckman and forward.

Any thoughts on Dom Tyson? He didn't play well in the TAC cup grand final, but was pretty solid throughout the year.
