The Bulldogs have a few areas to address, but some of this can be done next year, when they'll have compensation picks in the first and third rounds (for Ward and Reid), so their planning ahead will be key. As far as this draft goes, a few good players will squeeze through to 17 and the Dogs should pick the best of them; it's too early to focus too heavily on needs, especially should someone skilful like Hayden Crozier or Brandon Ellis reach them. Clay Smith is another they're keen on, although they probably don't need another inside midfielder. Taylor Adams too. Something they could look for, depending on who is around, is a couple of big bodies. Their best defenders are old and there's not a heap coming up, although Markovic improved this year; getting started on one now could mean he's ready when Lake and Morris go, as well as Hargrave. That brings Norwood defender Alex Forster into the mix. If Roughead can pick up where he left off in 2009, he could become a serious forward factor, but another big youngster would be handy, and given their tall forwards are babies, the club may look at bringing in someone a little older who could slot straight in to give Jones, Panos and the injury-prone Hill their best chance to develop. They could do the same for the back line. There are some tall youngsters in this draft with ability but some flaws. Fletcher Roberts is one player they've been linked to.
