Re: AFL National Draft 2011
Good sub-editing by the Mooney Valley Leader...
Referred to as Dickson at the start of the article and then he amazingly changes into a new person called Dixon...
Nice:
THE Bendigo Bombers continue to stack their forward line with star power, signing century goalkicker and AFL hopeful Tory Dickson.
The Noble Park spearhead capped a breakout 112-goal season last year with selection in the Eastern Football League team of the year, a premiership medallion and a top-three finish in the Bulls’ best-and-fairest.
Dickson joins Matthew Little, the reigning Frosty Miller medallist and former Williamstown gun, in a revamped Bendigo forward half.
The Bombers are likely to be without Stewart Crameri for the start of this season. The Bendigo lad was superb in the NAB Cup with AFL partner Essendon and is expected to be promoted off the rookie list with a senior debut imminent.
Moving Anthony Long to the long-term injury list has given the Bombers the opportunity to promote a rookie to the senior list.
Stewart Crameri, Josh Jenkins, Jay Neagle, Tait Silverlock, Tyson Slattery, Michael Quinn and James Webster are all rookie-listed players at Essendon.
“We haven’t made a decision as yet but obviously we have some good candidates and there is no need to make a decision until you are about to play a player in a match,” Essendon general manager Paul Hamilton said.
“We’ll make a decision on who does come up when one of the players looks like being selected in the senior side.”
Crameri took the long route to AFL football, bypassing the TAC Cup but dominating the VFL.
Bendigo president David Joss confirmed fringe Essendon player Jay Neagle was likely to continue his development in defence at Bendigo this season with his career stalled at the crossroads.
“(Dixon) will add a lot, he’s got a good reputation and will bolster our forward line,” Joss said.
“We did identify one weakness we had last year was we lacked key forwards.”
Bendigo coach Shannon Grant signed Dixon on Friday and coached the mercurial goalkicker at rival VFL club Frankston in 2009.
When Mick Fogarty, Dixon’s coach at Noble Park last year, was asked if he was the best player he had tutored he said: “I coached Dale Thomas as a 15-year-old and he’s obviously kicked on at Collingwood. I also coached Greg Tivendale. But Tory Dickson is right up there with the best I’ve had.”Comment
