I seem to recall almost the identical post on Hoopers game last week or the week before! Very frustrating.

In what sense? I think he just lacks confidence. How is it he looks so strong and yet his kicks are these wobbly things? He looks like he could thump the laces off the thing.

        Height: 194cm
        Weight: 90kg
        From: Calder Cannons
        Position: Tall defender
Brother of Crow Daniel, he is a key-position defender who thrives in one-on-one contests. Provides great run from defence.
The draft camp had him at 191.7cm and that was accurate. We had him listed at 192cm which is close enough. The papers rarely have it right. If he was 3 or 4cm taller it might be better for us but from what I have seen of him over the last years we will have to manage his match ups well.

That is for sure. I always thought he was taller but then I have only seen him at the East West Day. Let's hope he can play "tall".

My gut feel is that he might be a Bernard Toohey type. Not quite quick enough for a flank and not quite big enough against genuine KPP. With the right match-ups he was more than effective with his hard at it approach.

IMO Hooper is gone. It staggers me that a kid who has got into the afl the hard way like he did still lacks the discipline to drop the excess kilos. He's at a club with Boyd and Morris (and to a lesser extent Dahlhaus) who are shining examples of what rookies can achieve through hard work.

After 3 (4?) years as a professional footballer there's no way he should still be so "fat" (by AFL standards) and yet he is. It's clear to me that he doesn't get it.

He certainly came in to the 2011 season having put on some serious KG's, and from what I've been told that was due to only a couple of weeks of excess, and very little exercise during that time.

I've since been told he struggled with OP over the most recent preseason, which would have made it pretty tough for him to keep the KG's off.

Whether he's a hard worker I don't know. He'll need to be to make it happen for him this year.
                TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I rate his potential , he has good speed over 20m , watching videos of him earlier you can see his ability , at the moment its just a question of where he fits in , under Macca's game plan he has a shot at FP or nothing , Dahlhaus is spending more time in the midfield and Djerrkura is being tried at FP if DJ makes the spot his own then Hoopers only spot is gone unless Macca uses both at FP
His field vision has dropped and this has affected his ability to read the play , he is actually an accurate kick over 40m but at the moment he tries to stab pass the ball with no real follow through , Dahlhaus had a technical problem which he worked on and now its no problem for him to kick a goal from 50m , Hooper gets the ball on the 50m line and tries to angle to ball left or right to another player or as has been said earlier an odd bouncing grubber in front of another player
He had a solid year with Willi ( 16 games 28 goals ) and I thought after another pre-season he could push for senior selection but we hardly saw in the NAB games , this year really is make or break for him

                  .

Footywire.com has him listed at 195cm, he is growing by the minute.

No doubt 19 year olds can keep growing a few centimetres.

I did not know that. I'll cut him a little more slack than before, with a rider that I still believe there are plenty of things a guy with OP can do to keep the weight off.

And really, re your comment about an off season with very little exercise (sorry if I'm misquoting, I accidentally deleted your text) as an elite "athlete" getting paid good money, shouldn't it be a no brainer that you'd keep yourself in shape?

Respectfully, I disagree that it's simply a matter of where he fits in. IMO he'll need to show he's prepared and capable to do what's necessary to be a professional footballer.

I like the kid, but it frustrates me that he doesn't seem to get it. Which is why I think he'll be let go.

When he is up and running he probably does have good speed but with the football in his hands he is notorious for not running his full measure before a bounce and this makes him look like an average runner. He will sometimes get the ball and just run 5mtrs before bouncing which is a real waste and it never allows him to get to his full speed.

I wasn't making any excuses for the guy, just commenting that apparently it only took a couple of weeks for him to stack it on, which shows how easily done it must be for him!

It's pretty hard to judge commitment levels from the outside though, isn't it? His body suggests he might not do enough.

Yep. Agree with you on both counts. Poor endomorph.
