Williamstown to play home game at Whitten Oval

Williamstown to play home game at Whitten Oval

The Williamstown Football Club will play its Round 9 game against the Coburg Tigers on Sunday 20th May at the Whitten Oval. Due to Burbank Oval not quite being ready, the Williamstown Football Club with the support of the Western Bulldogs, AFL Victoria and the Coburg Football Club have decided to return state level football to the Whitten Oval.

As there is no fencing around the Whitten Oval, admission on this day is free. The Development game will commence at 11.00am with the Senior game at 2.00pm.

The Williamstown Football Club will be holding a Match Day Presidents Luncheon in the Pound Cafe commencing at 12.00 noon. Guest speaker will be Western Bulldogs injured defender Tom Williams. Cost of the luncheon is $ 50.00 which includes a 2 course meal and complimentary beer and wine.

After the game we invite all members and supporters to join our coaches, staff and players at the after match function at the Mona Castle Hotel (53 Austin Street, Seddon).

I'm really surprised this has been able to go ahead, but should be a fantastic day. Hopefully there is a big crowd there on the day.

Seeing admission is free, they should try and collect money on a donation basis, ie have someone go around collecting.

Hopefully I have nothing on that day as I am planning on attending.

Why couldn't it be next weekend or even the previous Saturday. I can't get there.

Great! Hopeully Burbank Oval is still not ready for the 9th June game V Box Hill. Footscray is a bit closer than Williamstown for us.

Yes , it would be great to have a big crowd there , if its a successful day the Club might look at upgrading some facilities so VFL games can be played there more often , maybe even some of the NAB Cup games next year , it could be a way to raise some more funds to reduce debt

            .

              .
I don't think they ever will put fences in, but i guess they may make more from catering than at the gate. The Willy dog stand and the lolly bar aren't exactly big revune earners, although alcohol might be the other area.

I guess the money they make on the luncheon would outweigh the entry gate for sure.

I got down to the oval today and had a good look round for te first time in a few years and I was thinking it would be great to see some Nab Cup/challenge games there. The nostalgia factor alone would drag extra numbers out there. As for the fencing, couldn't they put in temporary fencing (such as at music festivals) or would the costs involved make it pointless?

Are you sure? I've been there a couple of times over the last couple of years and it was fenced then.

Council rules wouldn't permit it. I think the cost to put up a temporary fence would be pretty costly. As it is there is bugger all toilets and no scoreboard and they will need to fix that.

I had an appointment in Trenerry Cres last week and had a walk around.

Would be a great tribute if Willy wore our retro jumper for the game.

Not sure I agree. Did we have an alliance with them previously?

Gee you're not asking for much are you. I suppose they should change their name as well?
Perhaps we could return the favor?
