    Travis Boak

With all the conjecture going on about his future, does anyone think we are a serious chance of landing him? Or do we even want him?

I feel that if he wont go to Geelong due to their salary limitations & the fact that he wants to be near his family in Torquay, we would be the next best fit for him. There are a few players & coaches who either hail from the Geelong region or have been involved with Geelong.

I raise the issue as it doesnt seem that anyone in the media or otherwise has mentioned us at all in the scheme of things. Yesterday I heard Brad Scott say the Boaks management had contacted Nth Melb about the possibility of him being traded to North. It made me wonder if we have been approached also.

McCartney mentioned a few weeks back that we may trade one of our picks away to obtain an experienced player. He's played about 100 games now and is in the age bracket where we are light on, so I thinks its a bit of a no-brainer to pursue him. I know Port can be difficult to deal with when it comes to trading, but I guess you have to at least try.

Interested to hear what you all think.

I have not seen too much of him but to me he looks middle paced and just an average kick. I would not give up one of our first round picks for him.

Can play but is pretty much the only type we are OK for. In racing parlance, prefer others.

Solid player, not what we need.

          This.

We need to use our two top ten picks on the best available kids that are quick and can kick.

A Trent Cotchin and a Jonathan Brown with our first 2 picks would be nice.

I agree with that, we need some more damaging midfielders who have a burst of speed to break clear of congestion, but can also run & carry in a similar style of Coons & Griff.

We do have 5 picks in the top 50, who is to say that one of the lower Top 50 picks wont be used to pick up a free agent or traded on.

On the subject of potential draftees, does anyone have any names to throw up? Given the way we have been going over the past couple of months I have been wondering who we will look at, but havent been able to find too much.

I think Boak is a better player than what he is being deemed as in this thread.

He's not an elite superstar (yet) but I think he's a good, well rounded player who can play inside and outside the contest. His speed is good (not SUPER quick) and I think he uses the ball well enough.

I wouldn't be against going for Boak but I'd say the competition and therefore price for his services might deter us as others may be prepared to pay over odds to get him.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

We've got the grunt now we need excitement and pace and skill.
I think the membership base will be excited about fresh talent through the draft.
Boak is a bit ho hum for me.
Not gonna get my juices flowing.

Or a Rioli and a Lewis Jetta type.

Chris Grant and Brad Johnson would be handy too.
