SUNSHINE'S off-season recruiting drive has landed a big name, with former Western Bulldog Mitch Hahn committing to the Western Region Football League Division 1 club.
Hahn played 181 games for the Bulldogs between 2000 and 2011 and will be limited, barring injury, to 10 appearances for the Kangaroos because of his role with Collingwood's VFL team.
The 31-year-old suited up for Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League last year, but played just four games.
Hahn's friendship with Sunshine forward Patrick Wiggins played a key role in his decision.
"The club's delighted to have him on board," Kangaroos coach Brett Jacobs said.
"He'll still have a role like every other player. We won't be cutting corners.
"The competition's going to be pretty even this year. There are a lot of good sides.
"With Mitch's experience, he'll just naturally show a fair bit of leadership.
"He'll be really good for our young guys.
"As we've seen when we had Danny Jacobs and Simon Wiggins in the past, these guys, without having a specific role, just lead and encourage the young blokes."
Jacobs said Hahn was likely to fill a role in the forward half.
In another boost for Sunshine, which finished fifth last season, 2007 Barry Priest medallist Russell Douglas has returned after more than two years overseas.
Aaron Shellie (Avondale Heights), Mitchell Ellis (Seymour), Scott Smith (South Mornington) and Cameron Taylor (Tongala) have also inked with the club.
"We've picked up six-eight senior guys, so we're in the same boat as a lot of other clubs," Jacobs said.
"We think we're going to have a much better side than last year, but so does everybody else. Hopefully we win enough games to be around the mark."
Sunshine will face local rival Albion in the opening-round on April 13.
