Having seen Prismall a few times I've observed a few things.

    Pros
-He's in the right age bracket that could help our list
    -He has good skills
-Has inside and outside game as a midfielder.

    Cons
    -Pace is only average
-Prone to brain fades and poor decision making.

Unfortunately his poor decision making counteracts his good skills imo, so probably wouldn't be looking to add him to our squad

Thanks for that. I knew we were close to listing him last year and, as you say, he's in the right age bracket...especially since there could (or should) be a bit of list turnover at the end of the year. I haven't seen any Willy games this year (living interstate) but had noticed that he'd crept into the best players over the last couple of weeks.

Pearce just doesn't have it, isn't quick, isn't damaging with his ball use and I have seen him on several occasions not go when it's his turn. Nothing inspiring about his game and I question whether he will be around much longer.

Are we being a bit hasty with Pearce ?

Showed some promise in his 1st year and he seems to have a few injuries in his 2nd year.

The only Williamstown action I have seen was the TV game against Coburg in April. Pearce looked ok in that from memory. Perhaps he deserves a bit of leeway.

A 13-goal first half has propelled Williamstown to victory over the Box Hill Hawks, defeating last week’s ladder leaders by 25 points.

The 16.15 (111) to 13.8 (86) victory was the third in a row for the Seagulls, who now find themselves in third position on the VFL ladder, just one game shy of first and second place.

It was a tale of two halves for Williamstown, who booted seven and six goals in the first and second terms respectively, to build a solid 35-point lead at the half-time break.

From then on it was a much tighter contest, with both teams struggling to find the space and run that they had been given in the first half.

The Hawks looked like they were working their way back into the match during the third quarter through some strong defensive pressure around the ground, but a ten minute purple patch late in the term saw the Seagulls boot three unanswered goals to steady the ship heading into the final change.

Those three goals turned out to be vitally important to the win, as Williamstown weren’t able to register a score in the final term.

Midfielders Daniel Cross and Brent Prismall were two of the better players on the ground, winning their fair share of ball both inside and outside the contest, to drive a number of the Seagulls’ attacks.

Up forward Williamstown got a great lift from the work of Dylan Addison (four goals), Lukas Markovic (three goals) and Jarrad Grant (two goals), who formed a dangerous partnership during the first half onslaught.

With the club facing its last bye of the year this week, it will give the players a final chance to rest and recuperate before making an assault on the run home to the end of the year.

                  Box Hill Hawks 3.1 8.3 10.4 13.8 (86)
                  Williamstown 7.6 13.8 16.15 16.15 (111)

                  Development Report

The development side also recorded an impressive victory, defeating the top of the ladder Box Hill Hawks by 45 points.

The Seagulls led the entire day en route to the 18.9 (117) to 10.12 (72) victory and now move to just two premiership points off top spot on the development league ladder.

While Williamstown were able to kick a winning score, it was their defence that became the catalyst in the win.

Sam Critchley, Dale Hoghton and Ben Casley were all able to constantly negate their opponents and rebound with accuracy from defensive 50, while Alex Greenwood and Michael Stockdale both found plenty of the ball and used it well throughout the day.

Williamstown were once again buoyed by having a good spread of goal kickers, with five players kicking multiple goals. Anthony Anastasio was the most dangerous of the lot, booting three goals and breaking the lines through the middle to set up many more.

The Development side also has the bye this week.

                  Box Hill Hawks 2.2 3.6 6.10 10.12 (72)
                  Williamstown 6.2 8.6 9.7 18.9 (117)

Re: Williamstown v Box Hill - Sunday June 30th

Western Bulldogs Development Coach Peter German looks at how each of the Bulldogs listed players fared in Williamstown’s 25-point victory over the Box Hill Hawks on Sunday.

Mark Austin: Aussie played half a game because he received a knock to the head and we didn’t’ want to take any risk with him. He defended well in the first half.

Jack Redpath: Jack is still developing his football. His time in the back half has him starting to show that he is learning more about the game and is starting to play some good footy. We are pleased at the moment with some of the things he is showing out on the field.

Daniel Pearce: Daniel played a bit of wing and half back and was solid in his role. He competed well and his last couple of games have been a lot more productive.

Liam Picken: Liam was good. He played mainly onball and won a lot of the football. Was hard at it – as we’ve come to expect and played his role for the side.

Tom Young: Playing down back, he obviously missed three or four weeks of football, so any player like that we don’t expect them to come in and take the game by storm. He played his role as a defender pretty well and hopefully that game under his belt will do him a world of good.

Tom Campbell: He rucked really well and we were really pleased in the way he used his taps and set up our ground players. It was probably one of his best games certainly in the ruck, giving us a lot of good opportunity to win the clearances.

Jarrad Grant: Jarrad kicked two goals, two behinds, so he could have kicked four goals. He also set up another couple as well so we were pleased with some of his forward line play and some of his ability to defend and pressure as well.

Lukas Markovic: We are obviously trying to see if he can play a bit in the forward line and develop his game there, so he played at both ends of the ground. He shifted down back after Austin went down and gave some good stability down back, because we know how good he is in that role, particularly when he comes back to Williamstown.

Daniel Cross: Crossy was solid again, he did really well with about ten clearances and worked really hard. It was a typical Daniel Cross game, where he covered a lot of ground and gave his teammates a lot of support.

Jason Tutt: It was probably the second week in a row where he showed some really good speed to win the ball and then kicked a nice goal from outside 50 on the run. He probably should have kicked another couple, so we are starting to see some more positive signs from him, getting back to full fitness and being able to use his strengths.

Dylan Addison: Addison played mainly as a forward this week and kicked four goals – he really made the most of his opportunities. He was good in the air and he got a nice crumbing goal as well, so it was a good well-rounded performance and was a key for us to kick our 16 goals for the day.

                      Development League

Development Coach Chris Maple dissects how each of the Bulldogs listed players performed in the Williamstown development league over the weekend.

Lin Jong: Second game back from injury and he played a mixture of roles onball and in defence. He started finding the footy well and he is progressing well after his leg injury.

Alex Greenwood: Greenwood had another excellent day. He played mainly midfield and had 30+ disposals and used the ball really well.

Fletcher Roberts: Roberts came back from injury and started the game like a house on fire, kicking three goals in the first 15 minutes. He drifted out of the game a little bit but his start was fantastic up forward.

Patrick Veszpremi: Veszpremi played his first game of development footy, which took a little bit of an adjustment for him. He kicked two goals in the last quarter when they were challenged. He really helped the team at a crucial part of the game, so Paddy, with his experience, showed some dash and speed and helped get the team across the line in the end.

I wouldn't think so. Second year blues is common and he has had some issues with his continuity over the course of the season. I thought he was pretty good a few weeks ago and German's report seems more on the positive side than not (although, I hardly expect it to focus on the negative too much).

His size and lack of a standout, elite skill makes the challenge a bit greater for him but I'd still like to see us persist with him for another season at present. I'm a bit unsure about what his best role will be at AFL level, but he was OK last year in the senior side and has tenacity.
