    Re: coach for 2014

Geelong were on the bottom only a couple of years back, now they have learnt the positions the side has come good, exactly the same as our senior side and our VFL side will do It.

IMO Ayres attitude is why he is no longer being considered for AFL senior position's.
Would love it to be West or Gia but can accept that possibly a coach from another club will bring in new idea's.
I can't agree with you there with Ayres. I've been to many Port Melbourne games and he's an exceptional coach and leader of young men. Perhaps early on in his coaching career he of seemed that way but he's very much an old school coach in the yabbie jeans mould.

I think he's learned to enjoy coaching more since being out of the VFL.

I've seen him give some of the best speeches in the breaks, the type that give you goose bumps and make you want to charge out there yourself. Doesn't mind a spray but i've seen far worse.

How many players will we have to recruit, more than thirty?

Well with the full list being 44 we probably need access to another 12 to 15 regularly and up to 20 if we have a bad run of injury.

If we have everyone fit (which never happens) we can cover 2 sides.

Would expect 6 to 10 non AFL listed players will play every week.

I wonder whether Peter German will be a candidate now that he has parted from Williamstown?

WILLIAMSTOWN has parted ways with coach Peter German.

German, who is also a development coach with Western Bulldogs, spent four years at the Gulls' helm and steered them to one grand final appearance and three preliminary finals.

Williamstown general manager Brendan Curry said the move was made in preparation for next year, with the Seagulls ending their affiliation with the Bulldogs and becoming a stand-alone club.

German's plans for next season have been a talking point all season, with the Bulldogs to field their own VFL team.

The former North Melbourne midfielder is contracted with the Bulldogs until the end of next year.

"I wouldn't say we've moved him on," Curry said.

"He's contracted to the Western Bulldogs and we had to make our mind up about who we're going to appoint next year. All we've done is just informed him that he won't be appointed next year."

Curry said assistant-coach and former Coburg boss Adam Potter was unlikely to take on the coach's job next year because of work commitments.

"I haven't spoken to Adam, but he's fully employed (as a schoolteacher). I'd say with his work commitments he wouldn't have the time to do it," Curry said.

"We'll be trying to get the best coach to coach our footy club next year as a stand-alone entity and someone who is prepared to take on the challenge of recruits and build our list and develop the young players we've got to be as strong and successful as we possibly can be.

"We've got some people in mind, but I've got speak to them. I think it's an attractive job for someone, so we'll see what happens."

The Seagulls were eliminated from the VFL premiership race last weekend, thumped by 82 points by Geelong in a preliminary final.

Yes. I would say German has a very good chance of coaching our VFL team next year seeing as he is contracted with us.

I've confused about what we are doing, I've heard a few different reports about who is coaching.

Obviously anyone coaching at the club presently gets mentioned as a potential. I'm sure a few of them would love the job. Then there's state league coaches, but that's more speculation than anything. There seems to be many quality candidates which tends to create conversation as opposed to one stand out.

Scott West would be my romance pick, but I wouldn't put money on it just yet.

I think if German is employed as our development coach then his in the ideal position to develop our players. He will now have no restrictions in regards to having to follow Willies agenda and can work in conjunction with Macca in preparing the guys for their role in our team. You would have to give him the first year with Gia getting some input as assistant.
After that it will depend on German and the Western Bulldogs.

And Scott West has resigned from the W'Bee Tigers and will put his hat back in AFL assistant coaching ring
