    VFL Membership Ideas

Obviously a new team coming in will cost the footy club a substantial amount of money.

Is there a possibility that a separate VFL membership cost would be attached to your bulldog membership? Social club memberships for the Whitten Oval? Separate coterie groups?

Would you be happy to pay for this?

Personally I wouldn't mind paying an additional fee (say $50), as part of my Bulldogs membership to specifically go towards the VFL side.

    Thoughts?

I think it's a good approach and one I'd be happy to pay.

Agree. As I have the Bulldog for Life membership, more than happy for an extra 5 bucks taken out per month to go towards a VFL membership.

$50 is the figure I had in mind also, Slim. Happy to pay $50 if it gives me free entry into the Whitten Oval for home games.

Do they make you pay for kids entry at a VFL game?

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. My only concern would be the attrition rate of cost sensitive members. We don't want to leave anyone behind. If it was voluntary, sure, I'd hand over something extra.

It would certainly be voluntary. I expect it will be a membership add on option.

I was thinking $40, but maybe I'm just tight

Great idea I would get it but it must be as an add on as some unfortunately only scrape up enough for their Wetern Bulldogs membership.

The club has already said they will be asking supporters to help sponsor the VFL side. The membership method is a good idea and I would be happy to contribute.

A mandatory VFL membership is fine by me.

                    What about a "foundation" membership?
It's a one-off but it would provide an extra kick to the club - a little piece of merchandise with an "I was there first" type logo or motto on it.

You'd think most members would want want some involvement with the first VFL side, playing out of Whitten Oval

All the suggestions sound fine with me. Whatever it takes to help the Club.

Don't mind the idea itself add long as it's done on a voluntary basis. Personally wouldn't do it as I already contribute with membership, and I would not get to the games anyway.

I would say I'm in the same boat as you Andrew on this as well.

                            Re: VFL Membership Ideas

I really think this needs to be taken to the AGM to get a mandate from the supporters to allow the club to charge for memberships. I doubt it will have any opposition, but just so it's in writing that we signed off on it.

For quite a number of years entry to Willi and Werribee were free with a doggies membership - unfortunately, as awesome as it would be to give 30,000+ diehards free entry every week to the WO, given its situation, for its own sake I think the club needs to be very hard nosed about this.

There was a similar question posed on another site, and from memory paying membership to ensure the success of the venture was supported by well over 80% of supporters. The club has to take advantage of this and set it in stone from the start that there ain't going to be freebies. If it's free for AFL members from the start, then IMO it's going to cost hundreds of thousands in revenue per year.

The goodwill around the prospect of Footscray playing at the Whitten Oval is phenomenal (though not unexpected), and I genuinely think this could really be quite a revenue raiser and help the club in so many ways rather than be a financial drain (how it's being portrayed).

I reckon $40 as a voluntary add on to WB members is fine, maybe $30 concession and $10 kids (not because I'm tight, but more not to scare people off the total investment of the two memberships bundled together - and because I am also tight). On a per game basis for members who choose against it, it can be a pittance like $3 or $4 if you show you Western Bulldogs membership at the door.

And I would make full membership cost to non-AFL Bulldogs members over $150, mostly to discourage people from "jumping ship" from the AFL membership to a cheaper VFL membership.

Unfortunately there's also small minority who'd like to make a point of not renewing their WB membership and only buying the VFL version - "prefer good old days" folk, maybe to make a point about the name change, it's all fine, as long as they're contributing a similar amount to FFC either way.

I'm actually worried about some of the turnouts - genuinely worried. Can see easily see 10,000+ at some early games - OHS wise and pissed off long term supporters being turned away wise, I hope it's not a problem.

Just went through the other threads, read about the membership info that's already coming out for next year, and I am an idiot.

Apologies, ignore all of the above.
