    First Whitten Oval memory

The first game I went to was Teddy Whitten's last. That would make it round 5 1970.

I don't know how much of the game I saw because my sole memory is flattening a cardboard box any sledding down the slope behind the scoreboard.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Unfortunately never had the chance to see our Doggies at the Whitten Oval. My first memory though was a family day in the early 2000's. Played kick to kick with Johnno for a good 20 minutes as a 10 year old kid, words can't describe the impact that sort of stuff has on you as a young fella. Old man chatted to Westy about just missing out on the Brownlow (again) and my absolute idol Chris Grant gave me a shoulder ride. I'd always followed the Doggies but that was the day I fell in love with them.

Can't remember the game, but it was 1993, early in the season. I'm pretty certain it was wet and cold. Good old days!

Can't remember the first game I went to but one of my earliest memories was playing little league (played a few games) at half time in 1978.

Like Cricho54 I have never experienced the Dogs at the Whitten Oval. I'm hoping one day I will. I first started going for them in 2001 and have ever since after a match I went to (Bulldogs v Melbourne - Bulldogs won) at the home of football the MCG.

Standing on two steel 500ml Fosters Cans to see the footy with my dad. Would have 1975(ish) ... Standing behind the goals at the Barkly Street end. It was later in the season and we flogged Geelong by 10 goals (I think). I was six so memory is a bit sketchy !!

I do remember the goal umpire being hit in the head by a can of beer.

I went to exactly one Whitten Oval game, the last one, where everyone beat up on poor little Michael Gardiner and we beat West Coast.

My dad instilled in me that based on this Michael Gardiner was and is the biggest pussy of all time, a lesson that I still hold near and dear.

My earliest memories are sitting on my Dad's shoulders, around 1960 and going to games in 1961/2 when we lived on Barkley st.

Would have been in 1987, with my new boyfriend. I was a Richmond supporter, he a very committed doggies supporter. Match was Doggies vs Richmond.
Decided that day if we had a future together I needed to switch sides.
We have been married over 25 years now and I made one of the best decisions I ever made that day, being able to go to matches with our three boys all supporting the dogs is such a great family thing to do.

Good story meshe1969. I'm the only Doggie in my family and will always support them.

As a young boy in the early 60's I was lucky enough to get into the rooms most home games. A very good friend of our family, Roy Evans, was coaching Footscray reserves in the early 60's and he would arrange for my dad and myself to be admitted. To see all my heroes up close was mesmerizing for a young kid. They are my earliest memories and I still remember those great days vividly.

My earliest memory is I think from the 75 season when we played Hawthorn. I can't remember who won but I do remember Peter Knights flying for a mark at the Geelong Rd end and suffering an injury which denied him the brownlow eventually won by Gary Dempsey.

Knights may have been knocked out and swallowed his tongue in the incident.

I was also there the day that Neil Sachse was paralysed.

                        Not nice memories I know

I can remember that vividly. Knights fell off the stretcher as they were carrying him down the race.

The earliest for me was probably about 1980. My parents were cheer squad members. We played Collingwood and as a pre game entertainment just before the banners were raised. My brother and sister were dressed as bulldogs and I was dressed as a wee little magpie with black and white streamers as feathers. I had to run as fast as I could around the centre square with my bulldog brother and sister chasing me. When they caught me they ripped my feathers off and I was stretchered off. Lol. I don't remember who won but I was only 6.
