    Footscray Bulldogs Fixture 2014

Released today - details are here. Season kicks off at Whitten Oval on April 5 against Richmond, 10.30 am

The Footscray Bulldogs will make a return to competitive football at Victoria University Whitten Oval after the VFL fixture was released today.

Five games will be played at the Bulldogs’ spiritual home ground in 2014, including four blockbusters against Richmond, Carlton (Northern Blues), Essendon and Hawthorn (Box Hill) respectively.

The Footscray Bulldogs will also play three games at Simonds Stadium, one of which is a traditional curtain-raiser against Geelong’s VFL team in round 13.

Chief Executive Simon Garlick said it was a great outcome to have football return to the VU Whitten Oval.

“We see this as a great opportunity for the Bulldogs community to help re-establish the Victoria University Whitten Oval as the home of footy in Melbourne’s west – while at the same time seeing first-hand the development of our future stars, who will have the chance to compete on the same iconic turf many of our past greats did,” Garlick said.

“Having home games here against some of our traditional foes in Essendon, Richmond, Carlton and Hawthorn will also give our Bulldogs faithful, young and old, glimpses into some of the great clashes we’ve had here in years past.”

Other prominent games include the round two clash against Williamstown at Burbank Oval, and a round 11 bout with Collingwood at Victoria Park.

Three opportunities to watch a game at VUWO and then race over to ES for the seniors, a full day of footy for the Footscray Football Club. I have to admit, I am really looking forward to it, even if for the train ride with a few other Scraggers into the city as well. Culture building stuff.

Love the double header but not sure about the turnaround time. With the Tigers our VFL game will finish about 1.15 and the seniors will start 1.45.

Seems like the club were pretty keen to organise a few of those double-headers, I think they'll do all they can to make it work. Get an extra train or something. How long is the train from Whitten Oval to Southern Cross?

I guess the only thing I don't understand is why we have 8 home games and 10 away games.

              Right on 10 minutes.

During the week - the trains that go through West and Middle Footscray, go through the loop. But pretty sure they would go through Southern Cross on weekends/match days.

Saturday and Sunday in via the loop and out direct so that's 22 minutes plus stand over of about 4 minutes at Flinders st

Maybe the club might run buses for the double headers.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Essendon game.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Good O. Not far from Rosebud. I'll be there for that game too.

The young mate of mine who had his jaw broken in the semi last year looks like he just got picked up by Footscray, wish him luck and look forward to see how he goes.

I wonder what they will do about a scoreboard.

Well at least the bulldogs got a night & blockbuster game on Anzac Day... In a few weeks at Bendigo.

It might be a better game to watch with some AFL players topping up the VFL list.
