3/4 time, don't think we had an inside 50 that quarter. Jordan Russell playing loose man back, but to no avail. I think I can comfortably say all the senior listed players who will play a fair bit of VFL this year are a step above so I'm looking forward to seeing them boost the squad here today representing Footscray.

Dogs goal, good inside 50 from Prismall.

Thanks BT. Sounds like we have some work to do.

Apart from Lower who else is having a dip?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Lower is standing out for me. Outside of that a few have got possies, but not been effective. Overall our skills were very much below par, we turned it over regularly, decision making iffy and if I didn't know better id think Maple is instructing to mark from behind. Obviously 18 dogs listed players will improve things dramatically. But could possibly give a better understanding to the VFL coaches about where the VFL players are at.

Don't know the final score but I'm guessing about 8 goals which would greatly flatter us.

Glad I didn't make it over to Epsom.

The Bendigo Addy will have this result plastered on the backpage Monday morning. I'm sure the word Finals will be in there somewhere.

Did you see any WB listed players and how did they go.

To my eyes, there were no senior or rookie listed players.

GMo, I think the time spent with the family was a good choice. The best part of the day was the rain just now.

THE Bendigo Gold recorded a six-goal victory over Footscray in their practice match at Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The Gold prevailed 63 to 4.2 (26) - Gold coach Aussie Jones wasn't sure if his side kicked 9.9 or 8.15 - against a Footscray side that had players backing up from an intra-club match on Thursday night.

"It was a good day for us today," Jones said on Saturday.

"We were probably three of four players away from our best team and Footscray had a fairly young side.

"All Footscray's top-end VFL players like Brent Prismall, Lukas Markovic, Nick Lower and Jordan Russell all played and all had a bit of an influence, but we probably had a better spread across the ground."

While it was only a practice match, Saturday was the first time the Gold has beaten a VFL opponent since going stand-alone last year.

"The good thing from the players is they knew the scoreboard went our way, but there was no fanfare or excitement about it," Jones said.

"Those guys who were with us last year were craving a win, but all they were talking about after the game was the way we went about it. Our ball-use, ability to run and depth is just a lot stronger this year and we had a lot more contributors."

Among those to impress for the Gold were Peel Thunder recruit Devin McFarlane, Jarrod Bacon, who kicked three goals, Matt Farrelly, Sam Heavyside, Jack Sheahan and Tyrone Downie.

"It was just good for our club to have a win, and you hear AFL coaches a lot these days talk about winning form is good form," Jones said.

"It certainly beats losing and we've got standards within our club to continue that improvement and be competitive and today was a massive tick all-round."

The Gold takes on Collingwood at Victoria Park at 1pm this Saturday in their next practice match.

                        They didn't mention Finals. Puzzling?

I remember when they got pumped by I think around 150+ in their first game and they talked up a few mistakes and misses early on in the first quarter that were costly.

I should take the piss so much and I do hope they become competitive. Local journalism is hard to stomach at times though.

                          Maybe it's just assumed...

Might be a different result come Anzac Day. The Gold seem both loved and hated in equal measure depending on whether you are interested as a town proud local, or into the local footy and hate seeing good local talent into the Gold and out the local league.

If you live parochial reporting check the Footscray Mail and the Western Times back issues from the '70s and '80s for the reports of Footscray games.

No WB listed players in the line up. Wouldn't be too concerned about how they played in this. Many played 2 days earlier in the intra club.
