Practise Match FFC v Geelong - Simonds Stadium

Footscray will have a distinct Western Bulldogs flavour when it takes on Geelong’s VFL side on Saturday, naming 18 senior listed players in their squad.
The near clean bill of health on the Bulldogs AFL list means a strong VFL side will travel to Simonds Stadium in the final practice match of the pre-season.
The Bulldogs midfield continues to be a strength for Footscray with Marcus Bontempelli, Josh Prudden, Christian Howard, Clay Smith and Alex Greenwood sharing the load.
Ayce Cordy is also expected to shoulder the ruck duties in tomorrow’s clash after VFL-listed Darcy Fort was rested from last week’s side.

Starting to kick straight now, should be a fair way ahead. Campbell providing a great target.

What impressed you most about Bontempelli? Did he finish the game well?
More of an In Bruges guy?

Re: Practise Match FFC v Geelong - Simonds Stadium

Was a pretty hot day today and it started to show on the player's towards the end. We really kicked ourselves out of the game in the 2nd qtr, there was 4 or 5 gettable ones there.

Bontempelli - First time I've seen him live. Looks like a giraffe playing through the midfield, doesn't play like one though. Scoops the ball off the ground exceptionally well and got his arms free all day. He was very effective by both by hand and foot, rarely made an error all game. Looked quick at times as well and went hard in at the contest. Only thing missing from his game was a goal. I think it's time we unveil him next week, he was one of our best

Campbell - Spent time both up forward and in the ruck and felt he was good in both positions. Looked hungry and provided a real presence up in the forward line. Kicked 2 goals and missed a couple gettable ones. Won a lot of hitouts in the ruck as well, our mids weren't really taking advantage of it though

Cordy - Like Campbell, he spent time both up forward and in the ruck. Felt his ruckwork and his around the ground work was quite good. He was getting into some dangerous spots up forward too, I think he kicked 1 or 2 goals. Could've had more if he could just hold on to those marks.

Tutt - His run was quite important. Got a fair bit of the ball and used it ok. Linked up well. Was much more cleaner today which is encouraging. Kicked a nice long goal. Good game.

Honeychurch - He did a lot of good things today. Very smart footballer, gets into a lot of the right spots. Was really good in the contest, threw himself around all game and used it pretty well on the outside. Kicked a nice goal too, I was quite impressed.

Talia - I think he was playing on Walker? Whoever he was playing on, he was beating him easily early and most of the ball was going to him. His opponent started to get more into the game towards the 2nd half, again the ball was going to him a lot and he held up pretty well and tried to help out his other defenders. Didn't notice any bad skill errors. Decent game.

Young - Got quite a lot of the ball coming out of the back line and used it well. Defended well and made good position. Didn't do much wrong, it was a pretty good game from him. Thought he looked to be running a bit better

Fuller - I found him hard to spot early so maybe he did more that I didn't see because I don't remember him getting a possession early. Saw he got more into the game in the 2nd half. A couple of scoring chains all started with him which was encouraging to see and he picked up a bit of the ball. Defensively he does need a bit of work still.

Goodes - Played mainly back and at times as a loose man. Tried hard and went in hard at the contests but certainly won't be recalled on that effort. Wasn't very effective.

Prudden - Won a lot of clearances and felt he was pretty effective early. Was quiet after that.

Hrovat - Did some really smart and productive things, probably did not see him enough of him though. His delivery inside 50 was really good, tackled well and he worked hard. I feel he's close, he just needs a big game then he's in the side. He clearly looks a class above at times.

Roberts - Sadly he looked like one of our worst player's on the ground, looked really slow out there. I'll leave it at that.

Williams - Disappointing 1st half, 2nd half was much better. Work rate picked up a lot more and he started to go a bit harder at the ball. Looks like he started to build some confidence, hope he takes that into next week.

Redpath - Never thought I'd say this about Redpath, he was good. He was too good for his opponent all day and made a effort to effect the play going the other way. His kicking let him down however.

Greenwood - I didn't like his game. Look his inside game was good, I'm just not sure what else there is to work with there. He's not a great kick and is a bit on the slow side.

Smith, Howard and Dickson didn't play. Thought I saw Howard out there, that was someone else apparently.

No worries. Yep, he played back all game. I've been super critical of him as a forward, so I hope he never plays forward again. I think he's at least a chance of making it as a defender, he stopped a lot of Geelong's attacks today.
