Peta Searle Gives Up Coaching Dream

Wasn't sure where to post this but thought this might be the best place.
For all of it's lip service to diversity, the AFL is still a pretty backwards ass industry when it comes down to it. Pretty rare that those who haven't "played at the highest level" get a chance, let alone those who aren't white males.

'Searle has resumed school teaching. It is nowhere near as satisfying, but instructing physical education at a secondary college in Brighton is unquestionably more secure'.

    Take that teaching profession!!!

Wouldn't engender much confidence in her with the new boss, describing how she's only there for the pay packet.

Aren't most people at work there for the pay packet?

Yes, but saying it in a daily newspaper isn't a good move. Teaching's a bit different to most other jobs too, in that you are working with kids and parents, who don't want to know that you don't really want to be there. Most people don't go into teaching for the money.

I would suggest these circumstances are unique, having just read the article.

It all comes down to the fact she has to look after her family and $5000 a year won't cut especially as they get older.

Maybe the dogs should have took the chance if she a very good defensive coach.

I'd imagine she'd have to start on a lower rung but considering clubs hand development coach roles to any player who retires/is delisted, I'd have thought someone with her qualifications could at least get an entry level coaching job somewhere.

As for the teaching comments, I'm sure she is comparing it to not being able to do professionally what she'd truly love to. Plus she's teaching PE, not like she's changing the world there.

Seems the dream has been revived, will be a development coach at St Kilda:

Paige Cardona, started as a TAC Cup observer, then started a website about drafting (scpaige.com.au ?) and last year and this year is a contributor to TAC Cup Radio.

Just fantastic news. Hope she does well. Kudos for Ayers for initially breaking down the barriers.
