    VFL Finals

    Hey all,

I am looking at flying over for one more game and was hoping I might be able to do a double header with a VFL game. Excuse my lack of knowledge on all things VFL, but I was hoping to get some information about how the format of the VFL finals and whether certain ladder positions are awarded home finals.

If yes to the latter, should Footscray win the right to host a home final are they likely to have it at the Whitten Oval or one of the other venues they use for their home ground?

Lastly, how much of the final series is televised (all, or just one game a round etc.?)

    Thanks for any help.

We won't get a home final , we have no fences around the ground to charge to get in .. I'm hearing if we play Williamstown it would be at williamstown.
Most finals are played at port oval if remember correctly.

That's pretty disappointing. You'd think it would be almost worth hiring fences for the day or certainly finding a venue that doesn't advantage the opposition (assuming it was our home final).

Outside of the first week (4 games), pretty much all finals are at Port if it's the same deal. Etihad for the GF at a guess.

It's the rules as we understood them when we went into the comp. It'd be nice to have a final at WO but Footscray v Willy at Willy is almost as good.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I'm trying to get it confirmed , is it just people thinking it because top two get home finals or is it fact ?

Would the VFL have issues with Whitten Oval not having a fence and thus free admission? I would imagine the finals are a bit of a moneyspinner for the VFL.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I heard they will be hiring a fence for the day should Footscray finish 2nd and earn a home final.

With finals just one week away, the Victorian Football League released finals eligibility lists on Thursday, with Foostcray receiving permission for 22 AFL-listed players to represent them in their post-season campaign.

While three of the eligible contingent - Matthew Fuller, Josh Prudden, Clay Smith - ruled out with season ending injuries, second–placed Footscray will be well placed to challenge in September.

In addition to the cohort of AFL-listed players, Footscray will also have the services of four VFL listed players with AFL experience to aid their flag tilt - co-captains Nick Lower and Lukas Markovic, as well as Jordan Russell and Brent Prismall.
The Bulldogs have one home and away season game remaining, squaring-off against Richmond on Sunday, commencing at 1:00pm at the ME Bank Centre (Punt Road Oval).

Kennel in line to host VFL final

Victoria University Whitten Oval will host a home VFL final for the Footscray Bulldogs next weekend, pending a top-two finish for the VFL side.

The news comes from the confirmation from AFL Victoria this week.

With the final round of the VFL home and away season this weekend, the Footscray Bulldogs stand on the verge of a home Qualifying Final if they can claim victory over 12th placed Richmond on Sunday.

Footscray currently hold second place on the VFL ladder, and even without a win on Sunday, could still receive a home final via percentage if results fall their way.

The Bulldogs would however require both third placed Williamstown and fourth placed Box Hill Hawks to lose their weekend fixtures to preserve their ladder position.

Bulldogs Football Operations Manager Ben Graham said the Club’s members and fans had embraced the stand alone VFL side and have welcomed football back to the kennel.

“We’re thrilled with how our fans have responded to our VFL team and our home crowd numbers suggest they are enjoying (home),” Graham told Leader Newspapers this week.

“We would welcome the opportunity of hosting a home final here at [Victoria University] Whitten Oval.”
