    State League Footballers - 2014

I know many people prefer selecting youngsters from the TAC than adding someone from the various state leagues but 12 months back The Doctor kept raising Ben Browns name as someone who could add something to our list and he ended up having an encouraging debut season for North.

I'd be interested to hear of any players who have performed well this year in the state leagues and might be worth a spot on our senior or rookie list?

One player who springs to mind for me is Haiden Schloithe who was on Fremantles list for a year. He has had a solid season in the WAFL for South Fremantle and has amassed 15 games this season where he had at least 20 possessions.
At 182cm, 82kg and just 21 years of age I think he might be someone clubs would look at.

Let me know if you have some other players in mind.

The two SANFL players that have been mooted as potential Mature age recruits are Sam Baulderstone, a ruckman from Norwood, and Brent Eddy, the South Adelaide Full forward.

      Mitch Jensen anyone?
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Will surely end up on a rookie list somewhere at the very least.

I think he is a good nomination. I'd probably be a bit more interested in Will Hayes and maybe Jase Perkins but those 3 were very good for Footscray this year.

I was impressed with Jase Perkins this year and was surprised he didn't play in any of the finals.

We need to continually rookie list players from our VFL team IMHO. We have to use it as a major lure for recruiting.

I really enjoyed watching Perkins at Footscray games this year. I liked from him the first contest he went for.

He's got a few tricks and he gives himself every opportunity to display them. Very good shot for goal-and likes a goal too. But he can make simple things overly complicated sometimes but I'd be happy to see him on the rookie lst.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                    Why is this?
Apart from them playing a role for the 6-7 vacant spots on the Footscray list to help develop the side, we have no 'right' to draft them before anyone else (that i'm aware of).
Rookie listing a player(s) from Footscray because he(s) played a role/improved/comprehended the gameplan at the expense of a talented kid who's slipped should be assessed purely on comparative merits.
If one decision is better than the other, at each individual selection, then fine.

I like the idea of a mature age player or two given the experience walking out the door. Hopefully worst case scenario they don't make it but set a great example

Perkins played in the qualifying final against Willy. He was very disappointing that day and I suspect his poor showing was the reason he didn't get another game.

It was the first time I've watched him closely and he looked slow and lazy. Also played a very selfish game of Footy.

Jenkins and Will Hayes on the other hand I can absolutely see them being on an AFL list next year.

Jordan Russell might be an option.

Soon to be 28 but for a young list like ours he might be a savvy selection for a year or two.
