Im all for the best available message with our picks. I just worry about who he thinks the best are. Still haunted by the ghost of the 09 draft.

But is that really a good way. Wouldn't you think we should tailor it to what we really need a bit more as well.

It is tailored. Natural tailoring occurs.

Each team will have a different 'best available list' the further down the draft progresses. Therefore Essendon's best available player at number 30 on their list may well be our number 40 and so on etc. As the draft decends clubs will see more of those 'can't believe he was still available' picks. If the club has got their fill in one area (say fast smalls on the list and through the ND) then they'll likely take the tall as their tailoring for depth.

Yes and that is why I chose the example I did to illustrate that "best available" could still lead to a shit pick.

I'm encouraged that you need to look back 5 years for something to fuel your nerves
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

mmm, yeah, but it was the draft that our recruiter had most free reign in - '10 had two father sons and a trade that made Simon's first real choice at pick 78, and since then I fear that BMac has had a guiding hand .

This is the first draft since 09 that he gets another bmac-free run at it and some decent picks.

We still had a coach in 09 giving direction

Development plays a role as well in how players turn out. You could have a potential quality player that you pick up that is showed in the videos but if the development isn't right they won't be any good at AFL level.

They've beefed up the recruiting since 09, so I'm more confident now.
