    Only in Yarraville...

i wouldn't want to have to tell these people any really bad news!

Bottom line. Don't muck them about. Wow I didn't think that's how we sorted our problems out in this country, but Yarraville is a place quite unlike anywhere else.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I love them comparing it to The Arab Spring! How self important can you be?

No doubt they are as upset by the installation of the parking metres as they are about their property prices increasing by about 400% in the last 20 years

That's probably conservative. My parents bought a house in Newport in the early 80s in good condition on a 800m2+ block with a large sunroom and self contained granny flat for $36,000. That house would have increased 20-30 fold by now (would've been great had they have held on to it).

I love the "People are opposed to it so council can't allow it" line. Never gets old.

There's no way to rally support quite like brushing off acts of thuggery as being the victim's fault.

The funny thing is the locals who actually live in Yarraville don't give a rats arse about parking meters. Locals walk into the village so cars and parking are irrelevant. It's a terrible place to drive around. It's all the tourists who want to be seen there, but who have to drive to get there, that they're up in arms about.

Laws and other people's rights are irrelevant when you know you're morally right!

Like how I can vandalise someone's car because in my opinion it isn't fuel efficient enough. I'm not a criminal, I'm saving the planet!

Dead right. But it's always been the way. It's what happens when they build the shopping strip on the wrong street. Ever wondered why Stephen st is a Boulevard but Anderson st is a normal residential size street?

The local MP owned land near Anderson st when the railway went through and somehow the railway station ended up near his land instead of where it was originally supposed to be.

That's the beauty of living in close proximity to a prized community shopping strip - walking distance to everything you ever need without having to get in the car to go to an appalling monolithic shopping mall.

Yes imagine back then if you got a property in Port Melbourne and kept it now. Would be worth big millions now.

If you're 15 kms or less from the city and with good proximity to trains/trams, you are sitting on a goldmine. Watch St Albans start to pick up next and Macleod in the north.

Was out in Glen Waverley on Monday night and was shocked at how fantastic the development around the train station has become. I remember in the 1980's when some parts of Glen Waverley were rough as guts.

Yep for sure Sedat. Once Glen Waverley was orchards and a growth area now its a well established area. The Glen Shops are good and not too big but that could change in the future.
