STP's first 3 albums have stood up exceptionally well over the years. They were pilloried at the time as being derivative of the Seattle sound, but the reality is that they had fantastic Beatles-esque pop sensibility that melded together beautifully with their signature distorted sound. And Scott Weiland was one of the best frontmen going around - theatrical, charismatic, great vocalist. I went to the US as a 21 yo for a holiday in 1993 and fell in love with them as soon as I heard 'Plush' on high rotation everywhere we went.
It is sad when any musician dies before their time (even when utterly predictable such as in this case), but when my age contemporaries start doing so it becomes even more poignant.
'Interstate Love Song' is a flawless, perfect pop gem - we are incredibly lucky for it's presence. Thank you Scott and STP.
Thanks Scraggers a really poignant and rarely thought about point of view. Its easy to mythologise these rock casualties and yet we don't see the sorrow and disappointment their car crash lifestyles have on those who love and need them the most.
