    Re: WOOF Fitness

I gave up the commercial gym membership about a year ago as I was hating it - and joined a martial arts centre where my kids do taekwondo. I took up Jeet Kune Do (which is a modern style of Kung Fu). Thought that it would be good to learn something new in my mid-30s and get some fitness at the same time.

Because I work for the YMCA I get a card that gets me access to all YMCA gyms and pools and facilities and classes!

      Read it and weep...
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I just googled Bigfooty Bulldogs and it came up with a 2005 thread.

Which sounds right because I was playing before I got married.

Far out time flies. I didn't think it would be that long ago.

            Re: WOOF Fitness

I try and do a minimum of two boxing sessions a week, which also involve body weight type exercises and one strength and conditioning session a week that involves kettle, dumbbell, ropes, bands, body strength and sprint work. I really enjoy this type of exercise and have decided to forget the ambition I once had to finish a marathon - at least for now - as running long distances just doesn't seem to be floating my boat.

On top of that I play a game of golf most weeks.

My biggest issue or hindrance to being in better shape is wine consumption (though I'm looking to really limit that going forward) and irregular sleeping patterns.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

              Re: WOOF Fitness

In terms of pure fitness I'm probably as fit as I've ever been.

I probably do 5-8 sessions a week consisting of gym, swimming, running & cycling... I compete in a few triathlons over the summer months to give me something to train towards and have started doing a Parkrun when time permits. I'm also planning to do a marathon later this year so that gives me a good long term goal to keep me motivated... just hope the body holds together!

And with a group of mates I'm doing a push -up & sit-up challenge. We started with one of each on Jan 1 and you add 1 each day.. up to day 36 now so it's starting to get a little tougher, but the real fun is ahead. Not looking forward to having to do them after the marathon!!

I have also gotten back into my golf over the past 6 months, but finding it tough playing consistently well with no time to practice and no real schedule to when I'm playing.... but enjoying just getting back out there and playing the occasional good round (well good by the standards I used to play to)

That's a really good idea. I wouldn't want to be you those few days after the marathon though. Ouch.

Great stuff Mantis. Sounds tough but will be rewarding in the end.

                    Also at my fittest currently.

Running 3 times per week, a mixture of footy training and then interval runs on the other plus resistance training 4 times a week. I have a strength and conditioning coach who has been terrific in providing me with new challenges.

I'm at about 10% body fat and feel stronger and fitter compared to what I was a few years ago at roughly the same body fat percentage.

I still have persistent issues with my lower back which come and go. Something I have had to manage for a decade now. Still always frustrating.

Recently posted PB's in the big lifts: squat (150kg), bench (107kg) and deadlift (170kg).

Deadlifts have been tricky - only been able to begin doing them in the last 3 months with the guidance of my S&C Coach. Previously 60kgs would give my lower back grief, so the progress in a short time period has been pleasing. Just wish I could shake the back issues for good but sadly that won't happen!

I've lost 20 kegs in the last 12 months, from about 92 to 72, mainly by doing a lot of walking , a 100 sit ups every day, cutting back on sugar (treats/deserts), oh, and some stress haha. Has cost me about $1,000 in new clothes

I weighed myself today and I'm back down to 53.8. I've got no idea how I managed to lose weight.

I think daily walking for half an hour make your fat level balance and keep you fit

Around 60. I've never been more than 70 when I gave smoking up for ages once.
