After listening to the podcast from Double J about the Top 50 Game Changing Women in Aussie music, I thought about those that really paved the way for the current list of artists.
Backed on to the thread I did a while back https://www.woof.net.au/forum/showth...ght=Australian here are the list of Australian women I believe paved the way.
** Remember, I was born in the late 60s so the 80s Australian music pub scene really was my bread and butter and shapes this list accordingly.
I also want to mention Sia here ... although she was after my (prime) time, she really has knocked down doors internationally.
Special mentions to Jessica Mauboy, Tina Arena, The Chantoozies, and Adalita (Magic Dirt). All magnificent artists in their own right but not in my top 5
So, how did I do? Who did I miss?

- Chrissie Amphlett - the queen of Aussie rock ... say no more
- Renee Geyer - more 70s than 80s, but worked a lot with Sting as backing vocals as well as a great solo career
- Kate Ceberano - what a voice. A strong, confident artist that had a solo career, was lead singer for I'm Talking, and backing vocals for the Models
- Deborah Conway - Lead singer of Do-Re-Mi and a solo career. Her song Man Overboard with lyrics about pubic hair on her pillow ... I remember the Countdown interview with Molly. She was very controversial for her time and such an amazing artist.
- Suze de Marchi - lead singer of the Baby Animals ... the ultimate rock chick (and I mean that in the most endearing way possible). She was absolutely awesome live.
