Just don't invest so much of yourself in something thats meant to be 2 hours of distraction from life. Its all about balance. I still enjoy watching the footy but spend nowhere near the time I once did on sport. Enjoy it for what it is BT.

During covid I found footy all encompassing. I watched every single game, absorbed all the content, placed small bets on most games. After we lost to Essendon in the final rounds of 2021, I shut down for a good 2-3 days - didn't talk to anyone, didn't look at my phone, didn't even watch tv or play games. I basically just sat and coloured in mandalas in an effort to calm my brain. It was a dark time, and it was entirely kicked off by footy.

I realised I needed to reduce my emotional engagement with the game. I still follow closely, I watch other games, I play Fantasy. The only 'real' change is that I don't bet, but I also try to disengage after a loss and don't watch any of the analysis shows. I have found that a loss affects me less, I can reflect more positively on how the club is performing, and I enjoy the wins more.

I hope you can find a place for the Bulldogs and WOOF in your life BT.

I still love the club. Drafting and trading is a passion, that will hopefully make the club succeed - which I want. That's the part I still have a passion for. But... The rest just doesn't do it for me, I personally don't enjoy it anymore. Last year I wasn't posting at midnight on a single occasion (or at all), or trying to switch off my brain from this dumpster fire of a period post GF. I enjoy using the time and energy elsewhere and last year having the year off showed me how much more winter is enjoyable for me. Then fire up again when the player trading fire up and the draft rolls round. That's my balance now. I just don't enjoy game day, or selection night and the like. The last two weeks really crystalised it, and how good last year was without it.

See above - still love the club and love WOOF. It's just me sticking with the things I love at the end of seasons, and moving away from the things I don't (the actual season).

Looking forward to going Thursday, and I have no idea why.
Yeah I get that. 2016 awakened something. We all thought it was the start if a dynasty. We were a young group with the world in our palms. Then shit went south. I was already queationing Bevo in 2018. But we still had faith and held on hope cos you know, we had Bont. Then in 2021 when all hope looked to be fading, we snag another grand final berth. Not sure how we did it but we did. Hope was reinvigorated. I had written off Bevo in 2021 but again thought I had it wrong. That epic collapse looked concerning but perhaps it was a wakeup call. Well it wasn't. 2022 was mostly a bore and we've now hit rock bottom. There is absolutely no coming back from this. We are cooked. Bevo has long been cooked. We are honestly bottom 4 material and that will be my expectation from here on. Hell north already have 2 more wins than us. It'll be the hawks and us probably.

Covid nearly killed footy for me. It just hasn't felt right ever since. Even the 2021 grand final felt like an ansett cup final.

Unfortunately in society we have no balance. We work too much! we spend too much time on sport. We spend too much time on tv shows/movies. We spend too much time on our phones. We spend too much time on games.

Conversely we spend hardly any time on ourselves. We can't even go for a walk & be left with our own thoughts. We have to listen to music/podcast. We can't be waiting for a train/tram or on a train/tram without engaging with our phones.

Why are we afraid to be left alone with our own thoughts? Do we not like ourselves?

Technology has made life far more convenient, but has it made our lives better?

                Balance!

You know part of the answer BT. Its good that you recognise it. Stick to what you enjoy & get the balance right.

I just enjoy gameday & thats it. Covid has killed the love of the club for me but i still have red, white & blue in my veins. Losing doesn't stay with me. Its 2 hours & then move on with life.

I wish I could get you to a couple of the training sessions and to the players sponsors for a game or two.
I get the enjoyment part but I can't get the same buzz from watching games on the tele like I can at the game.

Thanks G. After 20 years I’d hope so!

I think I’m over the Bevo era thinking about it. Being honest as I can be. That’s not to say ‘sack him right this second’. But he’s never taken us to back to back deep finals like Plough or Rocket. Wasted opportunities and players repeatedly wanting out, players getting out and retiring early, good players forced out, players black listed yet chased by other clubs, players played out of position, the ruck philosophy, limited new coaching to challenge the status quo, and now seemingly a lack of new ideas and a rebuild that will come years and years earlier than it should.

COVID didn’t probably help my engagement either. But, like the player’s performances, I’m apparently over the Bevo era and like the players I don’t have the stamina to run it out either.

But I’m just putting my energy into the things I like. That’s drafting and trading. I can stick fat to Sam Power.

BT I really enjoy your contributions, this place is always about the people and characters first and the footy second. It?s just the excuse we use to engage.

Consume the game the way that makes you get something positive from it, and please keep contributing especially to the trade and draft threads I love reading those !!

We suck now..it's a transient phase; the club and the people, especially the great supporters will always be here to lend a supportive ear for members of the tribe

                          Sounds pretty sensible.

I was coaching/watching some local footy yesterday...even 12 months ago my priority when I got home (it was a 3 hour drive home) would have been watching the replay. But I won’t be doing it to myself...I’ll just get frustrated and annoyed and my Sunday will be a write off. Just get involved in the good stuff, stay away from the bad. If it doesn’t make you money or if it doesn’t make you happy...

To be fair, had I been able I would have 100/100 watched the game so maybe this isn’t a great example of growth!
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Is it possible to actually delete your woof account? It would help not being able to simply just log back on.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.
