It doesn't offend me at all mate, and I know the spirit with which it was written. I guess I'm just conscious that there may be people on this board more closely acquainted with suicide than you and I are.

    All good, all the best.

Yep in hindsight it wasn't a great idea, thank you for heads up.

Unlike Kurt, I’m sure we will survive it. Unless Courtney Love had us killed too.

I'm not sure why there's such a fascination with "Courtney killed Kurt".

It's not like he didn't have an open and persistent issue with depression, drug use and suicidal ideation.

The guy literally wrote a song called "I hate myself and I want to die". Not much nuance or metaphor in that.

It?s 30 years since the death of Kurt Cobain.

We?re marking this anniversary by bringing you one of the most treasured recordings in the triple j live music archive.

When Nirvana hit our shores in 1992, they were the biggest band in the world.

Nevermind had been released just a few months prior and catapulted the Seattle trio into superstardom.

They played the first ever Big Day Out in Sydney as well as a bunch of small club shows around the country and the triple j live music team recorded this performance at the Palace in Melbourne.

It?s one of the most anticipated and intense live music experiences Australia has ever seen: the show everyone wishes they?d got to see, and that nobody who went will ever forget.

It turned out to be the only Australian tour they ever did.

Recorded by: Phil McKellar & Chris Thompson

              Mixed by: Phil McKellar

              Track list:

              About A Girl
              Come As You Are
              Lithium
              Breed
              Polly
              Lounge Act
              Negative Creep
              Love Buzz
              Blew

I was there. I remember Cosmic Psychos played support. They are still playing. Stood towards the back, saw a lot of arms and legs flying everywhere.

                  Yes he was very unwell.

Some people made a fair wad of cash peddling that story.

Courtney is nuts though. She threatened to have Frances' ex kidnapped over the Martin guitar from Unplugged.

Former Hole singer Courtney Love has settled a lawsuit with a man who used to be married to her daughter, which claims Love plotted to break into the mans house and recover one of Kurt Cobain's guitars.

Re: 30 years since Kurt Cobain passed away

Nirvana are dreadfully underrated for their music. Simplicity is OK, a bit like the Beatles early they were revolutionary but unfortunately didn't get a chance to evolve (maybe they never would have in any meaningful way, but I think some maturity would have done wonders for the lyrics at a minimum).

The amount of kids who loved Nirvana on this day forwards for a year was next level. Kids were crying in the school courtyard, and it just reminds me how dark the eighties and nineties were given a lot of them were in years seven through nine!

Was lucky enough to have a brother and a few friends a bit older than me so I got into them when Nevermind came out. I loved playing their tunes on the bass as they were easy to learn by ear and everyone knew them.

                        Nirvana were sick.

What was the original thread title BTW?

Apparently Kurt was a huge Beatles fan.

Re: 30 years since Kurt Cobain passed away

I was late to the party on Nirvana, but even though I was in Primary school I remember where I was when I heard about his death.

It?s hard not to wonder what Nirvana/Kurt would have released had he not been killed*(yeah, anyone that still believes it was suicide needs to do some reading on that).

Kurt was a huge REM fan and friend of Michael Stipe (apparently Automatic? was high on Kurt?s rotation and I have read it was the last album he heard). There was talk that Kurt wanted to make music with Stipe and I imagine it would turn out a lot like the phenomenal Unplugged session.

*re: Kurt?s death- there is a movie called Soaked in Bleach that tries to summarise some of the wild going ons. The movie tries to summarise the work of the PI Courtney hired to ?find Kurt?. From almost minute one things didn?t add up and he started recording conversations and post-death became convinced it wasn?t suicide. Even the former Seattle chief of police concedes the case needs to be reopened.

Reading some books around this will likely change even the most skeptical.

Should be 30 years since he died
