It was called 'Arch Rivals', I liked it too....it was originally in the arcades, then ended up on consoles.

You could punch the player with the ball to make them drop it, or if they dunk it you could still belt them when they landed. You could also pull their pants down to make them trip up

I have always been a huge video game player.
I reckon I have owned most consoles at some stage.
    Atari 2600
    Sega master system
    Sega mega drive
    Super Nintendo
    Playstation 1 & 2
    Nintendo 64
    Sega Dreamcast
    Xbox
    Nintendo Wii
    Xbox 360

Also played a heap of PC games over the years, mostly shooters, but a few I've liked recently are, Bioshock, Stalker (shadow of chernobyl) and Trackmania United Forever - can recommend Trackmania, there is a free download of Trackmania Nations, which allows you to play and earn rankings etc without spending a cent.

I have recently got rid of the consoles, and now just have a Nintendo DS Lite. Its great if you go somewhere and know you may have a bit of time to kill.

I just found consoles getting too samey with genres of games and nothing new and exciting, a lot of the time it is an updated version of a game that was around last year.

Ive also got MAME, I use a old style joystick with LH for direction and RH for button bashing, just like in the old arcades !!!!

    I also love pinball.......

I've always loved the strategy games like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. You've got to think and plan which is a change compared to my most recent game 'Madworld' (which is awesome).

As one of the Beta testers I can tell you it looks great. Very well designed visually and there's a lot of very good features. The Beta version hasn't allowed us to play the matches yet, as we are still trying to get everything else running smoothly.

At the moment it looks like it will meet halfway between TAR/FF and FM09, in that it'll be much more deatiled and in depth than the first two, but obviously not quite as detailed as the latter just yet.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I'm a tester but i can't even create a game yet. Not getting much assistance either.

Really wanted to play that too.

I like the childish type games like Crash bandicoot etc. Currently playing ratchet and clank and it's pretty fun.

              I miss cheats.

GTA is just about the only game left where you can truly cheat

Latest info on the AFL game

Q: When will AFL be released?
A: AFL is due for release in 2010.

Q: What platforms will AFL be released on?
A: AFL will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Q: Will AFL feature online play?
A: Yes. AFL will take advantage of the online capabilities of Xbox LIVE, Windows LIVE and PSN. Two players will be able to play cooperatively or competitively online. Four players will be able to play cooperatively or competitively on the same console.

Unfortunately not this year.. That sucks.

                      Re: Video Game Thread

From what I've read, they're looking at taking a long term approach to making the AFL game, so rather than trying to do everything badly, Bigant will concentrate on specific gameplay and make that work. Given the short time frame for the game, what would be the must-have features for the first release?

Personally, I'd like to see kicking and handballing actually going to a team-mate without too much micro-management, unlike the previous releases.

Yes it would be nice if Handballs were faster and as soon as your player gets the handball, and then wrapped up in a tackle not being called as a free kick like past games would be..

-A Realistic end of season draft would be nice. (Realistic as in you cant trade Pick 98 & 99 for Buddy & Roughhead)

-A fair tribunal/injury feature. So when Adam Cooney gets wrapped up in a normal tackle he isn't out for 12 weeks

-Strategy/Tactics...able to roll a zone by menu options

-The ability to create your own player and draft him? Build up his stats through game time and Training drills? That would be wicked.

And lastly I would say dont make it too easy? Even on Normal Mode you can spank a team by 30 goals. I'd love the challenge of trying to get my team in the top 4

I think im gunna pull out one of the PS2 AFL games I have, I wanna get the oldschool Doggies team out and belt Collingwood or something by 25 goals...Chrissy Grant and Patrick Bowden will kick 10 each!

Just out of interest, what old style type joystick do you use? i recently got a lap top, put my MAME games on it, but want one of those 80's arcade style knob controllers with the push buttons on a box type joystick.

It's like going back in time, and playing the real versions of those classic games and not those cheap imitations, it even flashes insert coin before you start playing, but you certainly save alot of 20 cent pieces by pressing 5 on the keyboard..

Nothing like Galaga, DK, Moon Patrol, Galaxions, Moon Cresta etc etc.

I've just gotten a PS3 (bonus with my new Bravia )

I'm not a huge gamer, but does anyone have some recommendations? I've already tried out COD: Modern Warfare 2 - it was pretty damn impressive.

                            Thoughts?

I've got 2 games so far. Assassin's Creed and GTA 4.
