    Pet Peeves

After a discussion in a Zephaniah Skinner thread about whether 'Z Man' is pronounced 'Zee Man' or 'Zed Man' I got to thinking about pet peeves. I'm sure many of us have them. What are yours?

    Two of mine are:

    - Americanising the 'Australian' language. It is arse, not ass. And it's a g string, not a thong. Thongs are what we wear on our feet!!

    - Also, on the other hand, Australian sports commentators often pronounce NASCAR as NAZCAR. It's an 'S' people!! Not a 'Z'.

    That's all - for now!!

    Spelling Smorgon as Smorgan.

Trying to unroll the paper each morning from the cling wrap.

When you specifically ask for no mayo on your chicken burger & it arrives with mayo.

    People who lack common courtesy.

What about semy-final instead of semi final or deeefence instead of defence ??
American TV peeves me bigtime or should I say the way Australia has lost its way with shows like Ellen, Oprah etc what a load of rubbish.
Seriously one day I watched Ellen and the highlight was a dog that could play dead! They just kept doing it, and that stupid carry on at the start of show where she does stupid dances and they all scream, fairdinkum rubbish.
      Bring back the biff

When you go to a restaurant in the United States and ask for orange juice, they reply
we have raspberry juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, passionfruit juice, mango juice, blueberry juice etc etc etc
Just give me *&%# orange juice!

It has to be bloody Americanisms, especially from my kids watching American television shows.

Its a nappy not a diaper
its a biscuit not a cookie
Microsoft defaulting their language setting to American English. Quite frankly its not English and should be called American!

Badly typed posts, emails, newsletters, messages, articles, job ads etc. I'm not talking about typo's as such, but just really easy bits to fix up. eg. Where and were, repeated words, awkward sentences, you get the drift.

Also when people drive 5 or 10kmph below the speed limit for no obvious reason. I don't understand why.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Agree broadly with this (both peeves), but speedos are inconsistent. Also, there WAS a campaign called 'wipe off 5'.

                  .
Bad punctuation, especially the misuse of apostrophes.

People mispronouncing my not very difficult to say name (there are a couple of celebrities with it)!

Listen to what I actually say people, don't just say what you think it should be!!!

As a result, I now respond to anything that sounds even the tiniest bit like my name (old habits from being called to registers as a check out chick die hard).
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

And we all found heaven - 2016 Premiers!

I try to avoid getting stressed when I'm behind the wheel so as long as they are in the left hand lane they can drive as slowly as they like I reckon. You just dont know what's happening in someone else's car. The kids might be playing up, their car might have developed a problem-there's all sorts of reasons.

I work in disabilty and autistic people can be pretty unpredictible in their actions. I've have clients undoing their seatbelts or even grabbing the steering wheel on occasions. But what can you do? Autistic people need to go places the same as everyone else.

Having said that I can still get annoyed when people are driving slowly in the right hand lane when the left hand lane is vacant. It depends on my mood.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

You realise it is called a speed limit As Twodogs said, as long as they are in the left lane, its not an issue as far as I am concerned.

As a regular listener of SEN it annoys the hell out of me when so many of their commentators say 'Essedon'. It's 'Essendon' you peanuts. There are 2 'n's in there. Tim Watson is the worst & he played 307 games at the club!!

Yes, I am fully aware of that. I am talking about situations where there isn't another lane to overtake them within, which could include roads such as busy residential streets or one lane highways in the country. I understand that a lot of the time there is a reason, but when there is no reason thats when I get annoyed.

As an extension of this, slow drivers on one lane country roads who cause a convoy of vehicles behind them either refuse to pull over and let everyone past or speed up when we finally reach an overtaking lane.
I should leave it alone but you're not right
