Re: Everybody's thinking about the rain

I wqas talking to the kids this morning about when their mum and me got married. I went to get the photo album off the top of my bookshelf in my bedroom to show them and it was dripping wet, along with some boxes of papers and books and stuff.

It appears that the water was leaking in right above it. I've checked my daughter's room which is right next to mine but it seems to escaped any damage which is lucky because her chest of drawers that holds all her clothes and most valuable stuff would have been right in the line of fire (or water) as the case may be.

The rest of the house seems to have escaped any real damage.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Had mum in this morning helping with the cleanup. Reverse cycle air con isn't working, nor the hot water system. I'm hoping they dry out and come good. Oddly, the gas wall heater is working - a tropical feeling in the house with the heater on. Have used about 30 towels, sheets etc to soak up some of the water...the smell, as expected is pretty ordinary.

You better find out how you got flooded as it may happen again. Do you have a leaky roof somewhere?

Had a call from a mate this morning needing some assistance to clean up his garage as it copped a bit of flooding. Lucky it didn't effect the house.

Doesn't appear to have come through the roof, as only the floor was soaked (no bench or tabletops, and the roof and walls were/are all dry) Judging by the way it was on the floor, I think it's come under the doors at the back, and just kept gushing in. Might have to look at the seals on the doors.

Re: Everybody's thinking about the rain

Sorry to hear about fellow WOOFERS being flooded - hope it doesn't take too long to get back to normal or replace things. We found out we had a few more leaks in the ceiling in our back room (an addition to the house) last night, and we lost power for about 6 hours. Luckily I thought we may have been out for some time so whilst it was still light, went and gathered all my candles, and we sat in candlelight all night. This morning woke to water views out the back - we back on to the canal which runs from the Altona Boat ramp to Cherry Lake, and it is very high and moving very quickly. By all accounts, we have been lucky I think!

Re: Everybody's thinking about the rain

No flooding here but went down to have a look at the creek near our place this morning and I've never seen it so high. Swirling fiercely, logs bobbing along, and all the walking tracks (quite high above the banks) well and truly covered. Don't think any of the houses nearby were affected, thankfully, but it wouldn't want to get much higher.

Is it Stony creek you're talking about? If it is I'd be as concerned about snakes as water getting into the house/yard.

No, Merri Creek at Thornbury/Preston. Didn't see any snakes but I was watching for them!

The house itself was ok just flooding in the street for me along with a very dirty car which couldn't be put in the garage due to the power outage.

You must have some great turf wickets out your way.
They ship merri Creek soil all over the state for pitches.

                            Really? Didn't know that.

I'll have to ask my husband, he plays cricket -- or at least he would if it didn't keep raining every weekend!

You can still open the garage if there is no power (I'm assuming your talking about an automatic garage)

I am and in theory I could but with no light I couldn't see anything in the garage and therefore would have been fumbling about like an idiot with no torch (which has now been bought ). It's locked from the outside.
