    Someone showed me this the other day. Even if you're sick of the song, I'd recommend at least having a look at this. It's pretty great.

            Spot on.
            Wonder if they will go for copy right, like Men at Work.

              I never really noticed the Baa Baa Black Sheep thing until you pointed it out (and even then it took me a while), but that was the first thing I thought of. Of course, it's Gotye the issue would effect, not these guys. Still, It's an interesting point you raise, and precedent has been set.

              I wonder if Lantern has any idea? He seems pretty switched on with stuff like this.

                Re: Hottest 100 of 2011

                Oh, and getting back to the thread, these are my votes:

                Bluejuice - Act Yr Age
                Jens Lekman - An Argument With Myself
                Jim Ward - Broken Songs {Electric Version}
                Snakadaktal - Chimera
                Jezabels, The - Endless Summer
                Grouplove - Itchin' On A Photograph
                Noah And The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N
                Rise Against - Make It Stop (September's Children)
                Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know {Ft. Kimbra}
                Jezabels, The - Trycolour

                I think'll it will be Gotye in a landslide, and deservedly so IMO. That song is not what I would call my kind of song, but it is bloody good.

                But my number 1 is Jim Ward. But I'm a bit of a Jim Ward groupie, so there's that.

                Also, for those that don't know but do care, At The Drive In have reformed.

                  Imagine it would fall under a whole lot of different copy right laws.
                  Down Under and Kookaburra where both Australian songs, this would not be the case here.

                      The only reason anyone ever noticed was that it was a question on Spicks and Specks. A very switched-on researcher noticed the tunes were strikingly similar, from there people just put 2 and 2 together.

                        Red Coats - Dream shaker 76
                        Pigeon John - Before we are gone
                        City And Colour - Fragile Bird 91
                        Does It Offend You, Yeah? - Pull my insides out
                        Foster The People - Helena beats 15
                        Future Of The Left - Dry hate
                        Jim Ward - Broken songs
                        Lanie Lane - Ain't Hungry
                        New Navy - Zimbabwe 67
                        The Strokes - Under the cover of darkness 41

                        Not a bad 100 IMO(5 songs is about my average), apart from the start with the FF's getting in. I know Grohl is Hottest 100 royalty but his latest work is lame and doesn't even get played on the J's.

                        Loved lonely boy getting to number 2(and San Cisco getting 7) and not sure how I missed it in my list as I love the song and it's on my favourite album of 2011.

                          Don't you hate how some people/songs get on simply because of the reputation of the artist rather than on the merit of the work? It's always the usual suspects too, based on the fashion of the day and anointing by various gurus and magazines deciding what's in and out. (There's a whole domain of theory behind this phenomenon of the acquisition and manipulation of cultural capital but I won't bore everyone to sleep.)

                          I suppose it will always be the case with these things, but you know, guys like Mozart, Shostakovich, Debussy and Stravinsky weren't always the most popular composers in their eras (Mozart was at times, but only briefly), yet, their work has stood the test of time while the guys who were the superstars of those eras have faded into obscurity.

                          Makes you think who out there is making music today that people will discover or still be listening to in 300 years but may not be all that famous, and conversely who of our 'superstars' are just flash in the pan celebrities who no one will remember a century from now.
