Frank Sinatra for mine. I can still remember my mum giving me a bunch of her old records when I was just a little kid and listening to The Lady Is A Tramp over and over again.

I love Paul Weller's singing style too. Not so much a great voice but his phrasing and delievery are spot on. That's Entertainment is one of the great songs of all time because Weller nails it so well.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I saw Linkin Park in 2010 and thought their two vocalists Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington were amazing. Completely different styles of singing but they really compliment each other.

Did you watch the Freddy Mercury and the Queen documentaries. They were great to watch and you do forget how powerful his voice was.

This duet with one of Spains great Opera Stars really shows how good his voice was.

Freddie Mercury is a great call.

I'd add Bill Callahan, Jimmy Cliff and Camille O'Sullivan.

Ben Harper. Anyone else go to his acoustic set late last year? Uh-mazing.

                        These things are always subjective.

In my mind, there's Freddie, then daylight. Then probably more daylight. Then (insert name here).

                        Take a look at this:

There were apparently 300,000 people at that concert (I take that with a grain of salt, of course) and in a non English speaking country they sang every word. Freddie has them eating out of his hand.

                        The greatest.

Howard Jones formerly of the metalcore band Killswitch Engage. I thought his vocal ability from clean singing to screaming was really good for this type of band who are really the only band I enjoy from the metalcore genre. For people that don't know what metalcore is its basically a fusion of heavy metal and hardcore punk.

Jesse Leach who has come back into KSE is also a very good vocalist. There is lots of debate between fans of KSE on who is the better vocalist (Jesse Leach or Howard Jones).

Agree with Freddie Mercury. I missed him by a few years of remembering him live, but I've never seen anyone, ever, ever, that could close to doing what he did.

I watched the doco on him last night as I didn't really know how Queen transitioned through the 80's. I was gobsmacked that he spent the late 80's making opera records!! In the history as given to me growing up, Freddie was hetro and made only rock albums... Watching clips of god fearing zealots in the doco try to ruin his reputation after death with no basis was so shameful. Watching his mates (and partner) stick up for him was uplifting though. But all that is an aside to the fact he could entrance 100,000 people like no one else and hold a note like no one else, before him or after him.
