Is that the one with the famous so called longest kiss ever?
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

One the best movies ever made, and gee whiz, Ingrid Bergman is the single most stunning woman EVER and Humphrey Bogart is an imposing figure.

I haven't seen many block buster films for years. I prefer alot of the foreign films and art house movies. Can't stand commercialism.

            Not that I recall.

Ingrid is just so beautiful in Casablanca. If I were Sam I would have had no compunction about shooting Victor Laszlo and jumping into the plane with her.

Ronald Regan knocked back the role of Sam before the producers offered it to Humphrey.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

That would have been a twist!!

Sam to stop playing piano and steal Rick's girl

But yes she's breathtaking. My wife asked a few months ago who my Hollywood crush was, I said Ingrid Bergman circa Casablanca. Apparently that was surprising as I'm in my 30's...

My son told me the other day that Dooley Wilson was better known for his drumming rather than his piano playing.

                  really, that's an interesting call

Maybe he actually meant John Bonham (although JB wasn't in Casablanca, hmmm, not sure about this call )

Arthur "Dooley" Wilson (April 3, 1886 – May 30, 1953) was an American actor and singer.[1] who is best remembered as the piano-player and singer "Sam" who sings "As Time Goes By" at the request of Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) in the 1942 film, Casablanca – the Sam in the famously misremembered line "Play it again, Sam" – a phrase which was never actually spoken in the film.

Wilson, an African-American, was a drummer
and singer who led his own band in the 1920s, touring nightclubs in London and Paris. In the 1930s he took up acting for good, playing supporting roles onstage on Broadway and in a series of modest films. His role in Casablanca was by far his most famous, but his other films included My Favorite Blonde (1942, with Bob Hope), Stormy Weather (1943, with Lena Horne and the Nicholas Brothers), and the 1951 western Passage West.

The only information he knows about John Bonham comes from the TISM song John Bonham's Coke Roadie.

Hmmm, I didn't know of his vast origins in drumming and touring Europe.... Shows my ignorance.... I guess it's a bit like Alec Guiness then in a way. Made his bones as a stage actor, but will always be remembered for a Bit role in an iconic movie. Maybe your son is onto something!

Re: Famous films you have never seen

I remembered this thread last week so I recorded a few older movies, and with so many cultural references in modern day society and humour I thought I should watch 'the graduate'.

                          Goo goo g'joob Mrs Robinson!

I love how vintage movies use a strong story and great acting (Hoffman is awesome and Anne Bancroft, WOW!) to keep your attention, and better yet any references to nudity or sex scenes make you use your imagination with understatement rather than sex for the sake of sex. Although I'm guessing it was edgy in the 60's. If this was made by today's producers and directors, it would be a completely different movie. And the soundtrack is iconic!

Thanks for the recommendation, if it's half as good as the graduate I'm happy!

Also watched the exorcist for all the cultural references I already know. That wasn't too bad either.

I've only seen it once, but it's an amazing film for it's time. It's very very racy, but in the way you suggest there's none of that stuff discussed or shown on the screen. And she's as hot as any actress ever. It's a bit like Pretty Woman in many ways. Definitely worth a look, it's chocks full of now famous pop culture.
