Internet TV - this is how.

Many posters don't have Foxtel, but want the latest shows from the USA or even the UK, as well as the latest movies.

This article shows you how. I have had this running on my home TV setup for over a year.

    Basically what you need is:

    1. Apple TV - Cost $109. or you could go Android if you wanted, there are many devices. Aple TV has built in WIFI, but you can also use ethernet if your internet outlet cable is near by.

    2. IT Tunes - USA account - easy to get

    3. USA Gift card - you will need to top up your Itunes account with money as it doesn't accept Australian Credit cards.

    4. Sign up to a VPN like the article mentions. I use www.unblock-us.com, but there are others like unotelly.

    5. Its all easy to set up and you can now sign up to things like Netflix, Hulu and others. Also you can download apps to your IPAD or IPHONE and then using airplay screen them on your TV through the apple TV device. I have done this for IVIEW, SBS on demand, BBC IPlayer etc. there are also apps that allow you to stream from your computer to the IPAD then on to your TV through the appleTV.

Itunes USA also has more up todate movies you can rent than the Australian version. Many movies at the theatre here are already on Itunes USA.

Make sure you have enough data download from your broadband provider.

Shows like Breaking Bad, Modern family etc can be viewed the day after they are watched in the USA.

If you want any help, I am happy to give you any advice. Happy viewing.

    Forgot to add:

unblock us is US$5 per month
    Netflix is $US8 per month
    HULU is US$8 per month

    Still cheaper than Foxtel.

It is also illegal. Not quite sure it should be on here.

I'm not wanting to get into a debate about it because I can't be 100% sure but either way we will keep the thread open unless we receive definitive advice to the contrary.

Use the opening post as a guide of what you might people might want to explore but if you have specific questions then perhaps direct them to BAD via private messages.

I've removed some posts in this thread.

Illegal may be too strong a word. It is breaking the TOS of both netflix and Apple and falsifying personal information.

The Australian government is encouraging this for software purchases from American corporations with inflated Australian pricing, after negotiations with Apple, Microsoft and Adobe fell over.

A federal parliamentary committee has recommended that consumers find ways to lawfully evade technology that allows IT companies to charge up to twice as much for their products in Australia. The Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Communications found that Australian prices for IT products were up to double those charged overseas. The committee's chairman, Nick Champion, says geo-blocking is unfair when used to segregate global markets in order to make bigger profits.

So it's basically out patriotic duty. I did pretty much the same thing to get an e-book off itunes.

Kind of but only for software that is readily available in this country but sold at an inflated price. Further to that they aren't actually encouraging this, they are encouraging businesses to learn about it and to learn their rights in regards to the Copyright Laws.

Netflix is not available in Australia and the TV shows that are on it have not been authorised for sale in Australia.

Anyway BAD I actually do appreciate the write up, I just didn't want the board to get in trouble. As GVG has given it the go ahead I'll stop talking about it from now on.

Some people sign up to FoxFooty on their IPAD then when its playing, they can stream to their TV via Apple TV or some Android devices. Its not as good as HD on foxfooty but a hell of a lot cheaper.
