True Detective spoiler thread. SPOILERS INSIDE

TD, what do you think about the guy at the school on the ride on mower. They're looking for someone with shiny scars, like a burn. The side of his face is turned away from the camera but when Rust looks over at the car, mower man turns slightly and reveals what looks like a scar.

Cut to the final scene with the gas mask wearing freak. Heavy set and blondish, like the mower man. Are they the same guy?

I just get the feeling that the scene at the abandoned school was quite meaningful, especially with the mention of Tuttle's religious foundation (brother of the governor). If you read some of the analysis on line, the theory goes that Tuttle is running a meth lab funded cult and the tall man is the muscle/front for it.

    Very enjoyable.
    Good question.

I've watched the school scene a couple of times and you're right he does have what looks like a large, shiny scar running from his mouth to ear on the right hand side of his face. Like a Chelsea smile but only on one side. He has all the tell tale signs of a meth head too. Crappy skin, patchy hair, questionable personal hygiene.

I don't think he is Reginald though. It's too convenient. And wouldn't have Rust seen the scar and at least mentioned it to Hart?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I get the feeling that Cohle is leading Hart on a bit of a dance too. Hart is the sort of guy who thinks he's a lot smarter than he is-he never questions or criticises himself, it's a weakness and Rust hones in on on weaknesses.

Do you think Cohle might be the killer?

No, I don't think Cohle is the killer from the 90s.

But I think he's certainly a suspect for the 2012 murder, hence the questioning. I don't think he's guilty, though.

Spot on about Hart. Rust is many steps ahead.

If you look carefully in the last scene when the monster is revealed, there is a stick 'tent' in the foreground (bottom right corner of the screen).

          One of the bird catchers?

My son says that one of the 2012 detectives played Brother Mouzone in the Wire.

            Watched episode 4 last night.

            One word: Wow.

The final tracking scene through the riot in the projects was one of the most intense 10 minutes of TV I've ever seen.

Very interesting that both Hart and Cohle are covering up Cohle's 1995 leave of absence in the present day interviews. Seems like we're getting to the heart of why they're being interviewed so thoroughly.

Props should also go to the actor playing the tweaker in jail (ex husband of Dora Lange). He was amazing.

Man that scene was tense, tense, tense. Just masterfully shot and acted.

              This show is amazing.

Wow. Just wow. I'm going to have to watch it again before I can say anything legible about that episode but the calls about it being tense watching are spot on.

When the bullets start flying and Rust scoops the guy up and the guy says "what do want with me?" I couldn't help thinking "duh! Human shield". But the boys need him for now. And next episode we get to meet Reggie. I don't think I've ever been this excited about seeing a new character since Brother Mouzone who in a quirk of fate is sitting across the table from them.

I thought for sure Ginger was going to get offed by a stray bullet just as Rust got him over the fence.

There's just nothing bad to say about it. It's tight, tense and intelligent.

Just read that "that scene" was a one-taker. Makes it even more remarkable.

Any chance a swifty will be pulled and Marty has something to do with all the murders, i.e. he is the Yellow King.

He has shown violent tendencies throughout and his execution of Reggie was a little too convenient. Perhaps he killed him to cover his own ass. Plus his daughter definitely has a history with the cult; the drawings and the dolls when she was a little girl, and now she's gone off the rails.

I'm half expecting a Usual Suspects ending with Marty playing the Keyser Sose/Kevin Spacey role.
