He batted beautifully but that's another disappointing dismissal from Rogers, scores like that turn 500 into 350. You'd take 95 everytime but the nervous 90s are taking some of the shine off what could have finished up a mighty fine test record

Rogers just doesn't seem to have the ability to make big scores at Test level. He can play a role, but he's not going to be a match winner.

Still, it was a valuable contribution.

Yep, full agree. It hurts in situations like this when realistically the best way to win the game is to rack up 600 ala Cardiff 2009

Very disappointing shot from Clarke. It was nothing, neither over the top or along the ground. It's the shot you expect from a 20 year old.

Gotta fill your boots on that pitch .
Once again application needed and the Aussies fail.
Clarke's shot was poor in the circumstances . Moen Ali's not turning it square .

Moeen Ali is a chucker, especially his top spinner. Like the quick hands in football it seems to just be ignored these days.

Interesting stat ( probably not earth shattering)
Haddin has conceded the second most byes for a keeper with more than 50 tests.
Deryick Murray has the most, but mind you he had probably the most fiercest pace attack of all time to keep too.

That batting had the exact same problems the bowling did. Aside from Rogers application flung aside for the want of "dominating the bowling".

Clarke and Smith were especially putrid shots.

Hopefully we see a similar tale to the last Ashes series where Haddin (and Mitch Johnson) was able to steady the ship, and then smash us back into a strong position in the test.

There might still be 250 out there in this innings if we can fight through the 2nd new ball.

Looks like being a very good series, two days in and I would say the English are a slight in front, today will give us a better indication.

I think it's time the Aussies lost this " dominate the bowling like the good Ol' days" attitude.
This wicket requires a form of application and patience, and sadly the batsmen think they have to whack every ball for four.
If they're going to dish up a wicket to blunt the quicks, then bat that way .

Watson needs to make a big score tonight and Australia needs him to do it as well. If he gets to 70 or 80 we should be in a decent position.

Same old Watson, he hasn't improved at all in 10 years of playing Test cricket. We seem determined to play these tried, tested, and failed veterans no matter how much it costs us.

We chose Watson for his 'experience' and when we needed a mature performance, he once again goes to water.

And burns a review, like usual.

Shocking by the selectors but is anyone surprised?
