Re: Second Ashes Test - Lords

Would absolutely love to see Chris Rogers post a double century. He's a real pro.

I woke up and checked the app this morning hoping to see something as good as 2/300....to get 1/337 - what a great day.

Rogers should be really proud of batting through the first day of an Ashes Test. Smith....well he's just a gun. 10 x 100s in 30 tests - averaging nearly 58 at the moment.

How long do we bat for on the second day?

I'm thinking if we could add around another 200 runs and get the Poms in about half an hour before tea that should make them suitably uncomfortable. Send Mitch Marsh in to get some quick runs before the declaration.

I would keep going and get as many as we can.

If we bat all day we will be 700 and the odds of a draw will significantly increase.

I think Michael Clarke will be inclined to agree with you, 500 is always enough for him but on this deck I actually wouldn't mind batting till after tea and posting 650. This is such a dead track that you almost have to bank on the poms racking up 400 minimum, I'd rather we maximise the first innings lead and ensure we don't have to bat a second time. Treat this like India do on the subcontinent, go huge in the first innings and make England bat for three days to save it.

If we can bat until 40 minutes before the close of play - I'd be declaring then, and having 30 minutes (6-8 overs) at the poms tonight. If we did happen to bat 80 overs tonight - we will be well in excess of 600 you'd imagine.

I always like the thought of having a crack with a new ball late in the day where the bats having nothing to gain bar survival.

I have cable but like you had read and heard via KB's morning show that Gem wasn't available via Foxtel's satellite service. How did you resolve it B4L ?
