Re: Big Bash League 2015
Anyway, back to the cricket.
It was good to see some vintage Hodge 20-20 form tonight. The guy can score quickly and does it in a semi orthodox way.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Big Bash League 2015
I do. But, it doesn't diminish how I feel about what Gayle did or how people like McGlaghlin or anyone who's been subjected to this type of crap feel about it.
There's always going to be more important things to worry about, and if you want to point me towards the topics you feel are more important, and they fit into the realms of what's deemed acceptable discussion on this site then I'll happily engage.
Anyway, to contextualise a response to some of your previous posts:
- Chris Gayle is a big shot cricketer, but he's nothing more than that. Just because he plays cricket it doesn't mean he has carte blanche over anyone else in their professional career and can treat them poorly
- $10K is a nominal figure that probably means a bit to you, me and the likes of Mel McGlaghlin. To Chris Gayle it doesn't mean much, and is a nice round figure agreed to by his management, CA and the Melbourne Hullabooloos to ensure he's going to stay in town and keep hitting cricket balls around. After all, we don't want him leaving town and creating a bigger controversy
- White males (more often conservative, than not) have the benefit of setting the tone for what's acceptable in our society and guard their position vehemently in the process. The phrase "political correctness gone mad" is rarely uttered by minorities. It's funny (or almost ironic - in a non-Alanis type of way) that these same people ensure we're overly distracted by this type of issue so we don't as a collective even worry about the types of things BT mentioned in his earlier post
Australians are annoyingly quick these days to pull the trigger on what we deem as being racist, sexist, ageist and so on, when it suits them, then ignoring the obvious examples staring themselves in the face. Calling someone out for sexism can be brave, or it can be a kind of fashionable slacktivism. ( the kind the media loves to stir up)
I'd admonish the man immediately if he ever pulled some stunt like that against my sister. That's not on. Definitely should pay a fine.
But the shrill, childish baying only confirms my suspicion that people are just banging the walls for the AFL to start.
( A Douche? Maybe, but one who has given huge sums to charity - could we say, a lesser douche? ).
Edit: just spotted wearing a gold playboy bunny T-shirt. No, it's affirmative. A douche. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. ― EpicurusComment

Re: Big Bash League 2015
Remi, Channel Ten did until they were told not to. The commentators can be heard laughing in the background and the social media manager of Ten tweeted the Gayle was #smooth.
Once the powers that be decided it was inappropriate , the formal apology came and the tweet removed. Once the tweet resurfaced (a hundred thousand times) Channel Ten blamed the 'copy boy' for tweeting it.
Neroli Meadows (one of the most vocal about the incident) has herself surfaced flirting with a guy working out on the beach (playing volleyball or something) on live tv. It's the old 'it's a double standard' argument currently doing the social media circuits (circus).Comment

Re: Big Bash League 2015
Scraggers, is this the clip you're referring to?
If it is, it's not the person you're referring to, and you can clearly see the circumstances are completely different than what transpired last night.
I've seen a couple of memes with the above clip comparing it to what transpired on Monday night, and it's all so off the mark it's not funny.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

And, what's your fascination with fining someone who's done the wrong thing by society's standards anyway? When a fine is nominal and most likely agreed upon by interested stakeholders how does it mean anything?TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Big Bash League 2015
If he did it to your sister, who's going to fine him? Why is Mel McGlaghlin being offended or treated poorly with or without offence any different than it happening to your sister?

Re: Big Bash League 2015
I'm pretty sure you said you'd call someone out for doing something similar to what Gayle did to your sister very quickly. Yes or no?
I got the point you were making, and it's not quite in line with what Scraggers was suggesting. You were saying that there's plenty of room for retribution as long as it's family oriented, but if it's someone outside of that, say, a sports journalist then we're all too quick to be offended and call the sexism (or any other minority) card too quickly.
The reason why we're very quick to call the racism, sexism or whatever minority defence card you think exists is because society is becoming sick and bloody tired of the racism, sexism or whatever that exists in our society.
We're changing, and these are the growing pangs we need to go through.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Big Bash League 2015
Nobody said the bold above. You agreed with me, the reaction is over the top. You would have to sledge someone pretty badly in a game to cop a fine like that. Getting all shrill about ethnic minorities etc doesn't really come into it. I agree with you. It's over the top.You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. Regards bold above - completely not my point. Out of bounds on the full.
Scragger summed it up pretty well. And you and I both agree, 10K is over the top, but it looks good in print! This is all a bit of a stage show by the powers that be.
We both agree the thing is being exaggerated.
In regards to Scraggers post about the networks and the media, I agree with him. 10K was what they thought would sound good in a headline.Last edited by Ghost Dog; 06-01-2016, 03:27 AM.You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. The other one that is doing the rounds is the Sharapova interview, when she flirted with the male interviewer. Neither are what Gayle did ... (Back to my original point) He is a douche, but I still believe this furore is an over reaction to his behaviour.Comment

No ... It's not the one I'm thinking of. I've tried to get the web address but is difficult on my phone. She is reporting on Beach Volleyball.
