It all depends on the first session but I think it will go into the 4th day.

Did I read somewhere that we are 7 for 1,100 runs so far for the series? WI cricket really needs some assistance.

It's a disgrace and destroying some cricket nations.
Players should be wanting to play test cricket it's the ultimate but money in India has destroyed it.
I sympathise and agree to a point but you can't force players to play test cricket. Test cricket, especially, requires application and determination and you wouldn't get that from blokes who are only playing in order to qualify for a T20 tourney. I get what you mean thatit's in nobody's best interests to watch West Indies cricket flow down the dunny but we should be looking at some form of equalisation of wage structures so players can afford to play for their country and be properly paid while doing it. No more each nation paying their own players at a different rate to the players they are playing against. Sort that out and while there still will be the odd player who would rather play 20/20 than proper cricket #cough Shaun Tate cough# most players would prefer to play proper cricket.

Australia might bat again. James Sutherland has probably been pleading with Steve Smith to do that all night.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Nice to see Brathwaite make a half century on debut and put up some fight.

In fact, it was nice to get in from a cycle at 11:45 to see the Windies digging in to an extent.

Once is bad enough Pattinson, but two is unforgivable. He should not play for Australia until he can bowl without overstepping and if he EVER costs Australiava wicket by overstepping again then he doesn't play again ever. It's not hard to bowl without overstepping.

I'm looking along the lines of soccer, if your picked to Play for your country you must play.

I'm pretty sure that the official document notifying you of selection, in Australia anyway, is in the form of an invitation. I can remember Ian Chappell making that point in the '70s because he had refused to play for some reason.

Listening to the CH9 commentators they seem to believe we should not enforce the follow on and bat for 2 sessions.

I'm not so sure about that.
                  - We have an allrounder so we have 5 bowlers and Smith could also bowl a couple overs.
                  - It's not hot.
                  - We will get a spell at the end of the day
                  - Lyon is bowling well so surely he and Marsh can tie up an end allowing the three quicks to come in for 4 over spells.

What would be the logic in not enforcing the follow on?

No strategic advantage I can see but I don't understand why captains don't enforce the follow on at least three quarters of the time. Why take your boot of their collar and let up? It also means you lose control of the tempo of the game, its easier to make things happen in the field.

I'd be enforcing especially with how well Lyon bowled. You can leave him on from one end and not worry at the moment, career best form.

Exactly. He and Marsh could tie up one end allowing the quicks to operate in short bursts.
From a purely selfish perspective I wanted to watch more of Lyon but being back at work tomorrow I'll moss out now.

I will go further and say that no Australian off spinner has ever been in better form, Trumble excluded maybe.

I heard some commentary indicating that we didn't enforce the follow-on because Siddle was struggling with the work load and I guess that the captain would also want to manage Pattinson.

With that in mind should Chadd Sayers come into consideration for the Sydney test? I don't think he is on the radar but on form he should at least be considered.

I'd be mightily surprised if the CH9 team had anything other than the match running for something closer to the five days than anything strategic when it came to their opinion of the follow on.

If Smith's decision was based on preserving bowlers then fair enough. You need to have bowlers who are durable, but they also need to be capable of taking wickets and constantly hitting a line and length. If a days rest strikes the right balance between the two then I'm ok with it.

He or Bird would be my next cabs of the rank, selectors have made clear their thoughts though with Boland in consecutive squads.

Does anyone get the Boland love? Yes he took that impressive 7 wicket haul on a WACA pitch with a lot of inconsistent bounce but I've always thought him a poor man's Siddle. Solid Shield player but nowhere near test selection
