Sincere question then, why don't umpires review no ball calls if they call one and wicket occurs? The argument it changes batsman's shots is thin on the ground.

Think Lyon has been massively overbowled today and his quality diminished as he tired. Smith has gone over the top having two spinners/a turning pitch, Marsh should have bowled more and I thought Patto should have had another spell at Ramdin and Braithwaite after the rain. Didn't make much sense feeding them spin while the pair looked so comfortable against it. The dam was ready to burst when Braithwaite to dismiss, Smith missed a trick in not bringing a quick back on.

Still a very good day for the Aussies on what is a good deck but a better batting side would have capitalised on some ordinary captaincy.

Didn't know that. I guess if you give a guy a reputation.

I can't remember hearing an umpire call no ball when I played park cricket. Those guys bowl much much quicker so probably not. I kind of wish they'd just let umpires umpire without reviewing and rock'n'rolling every decision.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I reckon before long we'll have some kind of a hawkeye system to call no balls, similar to the tennis. An instantaneous beep would give the batsman a fair go at a free swing.

I'd actually prefer this to no ball reviews by umpires. I love the excitement of a wicket, and the whole review for no balls is a dead set mood killer. I'd love a system that calls it instantly be it for the fans or the batsman facing. Could be as simple as a laser across the front of the line. If it doesn't go off then the bowler is over or is so far behind the line the umpire should know it's a fair delivery.

Great idea. Let the umps worry about getting lbw and etc right and leave the no balls to computers

By the letter of the law, the umpires are supposed to watch the bowlers front foot, back foot (must be inside the return crease), watch that the bowler doesn't break the non-strikers wicket and watch that the action is legal (not throwing) - all of which occur upon delivery of the ball. Absurd really.

Pattinson gets an edge just short of slip. Lucky, as it was a no ball I reckon. Why?

It's frustrating Cricket Australia constantly schedule prime time matches at the SCG. How many matches aren't rain affected in Sydney? The crowds are nothing to write home about and it would be nice to see actual play when people are on holiday.

It's like the AFL and Carlton, schedule them for prime time because they supposedly appeal to a big audience, and just ignore the fact it's a terrible spectacle.

So, you will be glad to know Sydney want to host two tests next summer.

They probably figure it's the best way to get 5 days of play.

While I love the idea I don't see how an instantaneous system could be realistically achieved.

I don't know either really, but an instantaneous beep goes off when a ball is out in tennis, so a no ball scenario shouldn't be that far removed?
