Shane Warne hits out at Steve Waugh, 'the most selfish cricketer I've played with'

Warnie knows how to hold a grudge.

Spin king Shane Warne has launched a stinging verbal attack on his former captain Steve Waugh, labelling him "the most selfish cricketer I've played with".

Speaking on Channel Ten's TV show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, in the episode that will air on Tuesday night, Warne highlighted his own axing on the 1999 tour of the West Indies as the main reason for his disdain for Waugh.

I hope someone can explain to me where the selfishness by Waugh came in.

Warne is a real turd of a person.
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

Man, calling him a turd is pretty strong. I mean, in this context anyway.

Warne never misses an opportunity to have a crack at Gilchrist either. The leadership politics within those great teams of 10-15 years or so ago were pretty intense.

The Australian Cricket Team is no better than any suburban or district club, they just have more sundry staff and hangers on to differentiate themselves into an apparently elite construct - there's obviously a profile and more at stake.

Egos dominate, and political alignment is par for the course. Just because players are quiet in retirement doesn't mean they're less likely to have been participants or protagonists in the bullshit political games that upset the fabric of the team they were leading.

That's true, it just means they're adults who have learned to act with a modicum of decorum, not like a self important spoiled entitled teenager who needs to air their petty grievances to anyone who'll listen.

Well, if those who keep quiet in retirement happened to have been massive wankers through their careers it doesn't really matter what happens after they've stopped playing. They'd be wankers then, and are probably still wankers.

That's not to say I like Warne putting out dirty laundry within a forum in which he's reportedly earning multiple seven figure sums, I mean, that seems disingenuous in the extreme to me. But, there's some Australian cricketers that have gotten out of the game as clean skins when it's just as disingenuous for them to be perceived as such. Warne is a buffoon, no doubt, but at least he puts his cards on the table through his buffoonery and isn't so image conscious that he can't do that through fear of negative public opinion.

Does anyone else think that this is a stitch up to increase the ratings of the show. Warne is a buffoon of the highest order and denigrating a cricketing legend like Waugh in a public forum is a low act (especially when he doesn't have the opportunity for a right of reply), but it seems that the producers would have put Warne up to this (or at least know he would cause some form of controversy) to gain more publicity for the show.

Ding ding ding....we have a winner. Warne and Waugh clearly don't like each other, and Warne is a shameless individual, so for him to pour some excrement over Waugh in a highly public setting and get paid handsomely in the process is a pretty easy call for him to make. It keeps people talking about him as well - when you're addicted to fame like he is, you'll do anything to stay relevant and talked about in the public eye.

Just picking buffoons like Warne and Fev is all the producers need to do. Keep the cameras rolling and the comments will come - the producers are probably just disappointed that neither of them have made any clumsy overt passes at the female 'celebrities' yet. There's still time though.

Maybe The Wiz can be brought in at the last-minute for such shenanigans.

In 500 years' time people will be looking at our generation - with our obsession on reality TV, competition shows (be they renovating, cooking, or singing/performing) featuring everyday people with enormous egos and no discernible talent, the Kardashians and every other talentless but high profile scumbag - and just shake their heads at our moronic stupidity.

Sure is sad Sedat. Compared to 30 or 40 years ago, all forms of mainstream media (TV, press, large movie studios, book publishers, major music recording companies) seem to be less and less about anything edgy or creative or substantial in content and more and more about the manufactured (I don't even understand the term 'reality' TV) and vapid. This is not the 21st century media landscape we were expecting, surely?

Then again, I'm probably just getting old.

Well with the way other religions are taking over, this country is going soft and political correctness, can't even celebrate Christmas in some places because it might upset other religions.
The media love blowing up the most minute stories and tend to push politicians to make the most stupid decisions.
The way these reallity tv shows are done is just completely false, Warne is doing it for the reasons pointed out in previous posts.
I hate the media and the way they carry on making us a nanny state.
Warne said what he said its his opinion not everyone gets on, they make headlines of things over ten years ago !
