Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
It could have been so much different if Irving had picked the Boomers.
I wonder if he could go back and change if he would. Give up all those wins in order to change sides and help inflict the one loss most of their guys would suffer in their international careers.
We should get him next time around to make it fair. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Bogut really showing his qualities.. Pretty much a role player now in the NBA due to his former sides game plan and his injuries, but he is a seriously talented player... Same too with Delly who is showing he is more than just a scrapper.
The prospect of a starting 5 of - Delly, Mills, Exum, Simmons & Maker at Tokyo will give the Seppo's something to be concerned about.Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
Seemed pretty content with his decision after the game. He mentioned that he had some connections in Australia, but that he was representing the United States. He was only here his first two years, and only because his father was playing here, so the link is pretty tenuous, IMO.
I had really gone off basketball until I watched the NBA play offs last month. They have some really good players playing in the NBA again after they seemed to go through a phase where the first thing a recruiter looked at was a player's height. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
When do we start to pull the massive funding the swimmers get and start allocating this funding to other sports that actually achieve above their station at Olympic level? Apart from a few notable exceptions, our swimmers always flatter to deceive when it comes to the pointy end of individual competition at the Olympics. The Seppos and Europeans are always ready for battle in Olympic finals - it is so predictable when invariably a #1 ranked, WR holder and/or OR holder Aussie just bombs in the heat of an Olympic final. Honorable exceptions to Perkins, Hackett, Thorpe and Rice (and now Chalmers of course)."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
Another terrible start by Cate Campbell and she finishes out of the medals in the 50m freestyle.. Pretty epic choke.
Meanwhile Kim Brennan wins gold in the rowing as she was expected to despite the so-called pressure of expectation. Imaging how many more rowing medals we'd win if they had the same level of funding as the swimmers."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
Is Kim Brennan Max Crow's daughter? Given that Max had to retire due to a testicle (teenage boys don't forget reading things like that in the paper) injury we must be especially lucky to have her. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
Is it too simple to say that the swim team need a bit of a culture shock? They have massive amounts spent on them and this is two olympics now.
Or were we spoiled in the era from Perkins to the end of Thorpe? They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: 2016 Olympic Games Thread
Amazing stat that Gerard Whately tweeted today - Australia had 15 swimmers ranked in the top 3 in individual events leading into Rio and these swimmers delivered 1 gold and 2 silvers. That is dreadfully underwhelming.
Funding should be cut and given to other sports."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment
