That was a very poor performance from our basketballers. Embarrassing even.

Live by the 3, die by the 3. 4 - 31 from downtown. Really poorly coached today. Scrambling full court trapping presses for the entire 2nd half which allowed Serbia to score at will as well as racking up fouls and sending them to the line so often. Force them to take the long ball, they weren't hurting us with it!

The Serbs were well drill an executed almost perfectly. They did their homework and deserved a crack at the gold. I don't like our chances of beating Spain. IMO they are better than Serbia and it should be a similar result.

Pathetic display by a team that promised so much. I feel for Andersen who always makes himself available to represent our country.

Lot of uproar over "the call" in the bronze medal basketball game.

I dunno, looked like the Spaniard got tangled up in Mills leg to me. I know it's unpopular, but I think that's a block.

Although it's probably no help to them, but I think the Boomers had a real "arrival" tournament. To push the US and beat Serbia, Lithuania and almost beat Spain is a sensational result.

If they were calling all of those very technical/soft calls - the game would have taken 5 hours to complete.

One awful game - unfortunately in the SF - hurt us badly. Serbia had their awful game in the gold meal match - unless you are Team America it is hard to maintain such a high standard for 6-7 games on the stretch.

So we ended up finishing 10th on the medal tally with a poorer result than London 2012 (which was considered a national disaster) despite much greater spending and much higher expectations - these expectations were set by our sports bodies and not by the media sycophants. As a nation we are so insecure and feel the need to point to sport as a means of our relevance to the rest of the world, and it is an unnecessary thing to do.

Before Sydney 2000, a haul of 8 gold and 30+ medals would have been considered a fantastic result - now it is classed as a failure because sport has become a political juggernaut which funnels far too much public spending with the stated purpose of giving ourselves a sense of global relevance. We don't need to do this - Australia is a fantastic country with a lifestyle that is the envy of the world.

Did Chloe Esposito need hundreds of millions of govt funding to win her gold? Popular sports governing bodies (in particular swimming and cycling) have become bloated beurocracies that require significant public purse expenditure to feed.

There is nothing wrong with pouring millions of dollars into sports, but it is how you spend it. Also the culture within those sports really needs a shake up. Clearly there are still issues with swimming and some how they feel they are god's gift and the olympics are all about them.

As you say, a sport like Chloe's is hardly funded as no one or very few actually participate. So much so that her family has moved to Hungry to train. There are many other sports that just don't get a go, but we need to channel the money correctly and make sure the programmes are right and not tied up in echos and big heads.

I can't agree with this at all. If you're driving to the hole and your legs get tangled up either the defender has moved or his legs are outside his base. Either way it's a block.

Also are you seriously saying there wasn't enough contact for that to be a foul? If the situation had been reversed and we didn't get that call there'd be apoplexy.
