And so passes an Australian icon. That's sad he had an infectious personality. RIP Tangles.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Very very sad news. Putting aside the at times buffoonish character he played, he was a lion hearted bowler for Australia.

I was shocked when I heard this as he lived near by me and I often passed him on my walks and said hello to him. Really lovely bloke.

About 5 years ago my daughters school (Girls school), had a Beef and Burgundy night for all the dads and Max was the guest speaker. He could sure talk and tell stories, and they practically couldn't get him off the stage, but he was very entertaining.

Condolences to his family and friends.

When I was a kid he was number six or seven on the list of Australian wicket takers, just behind Hugh Trumble. I think they said on a SEN he took 137 wickets.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

One of the best off cutters ever in Australian cricket. Got so many inside edges onto wickets.

Terribly underrated as a bowler as he did a lot of the donkey work into the wind when DK and Thommo were in their prime
                        Awfully sad
