Maybe next time Smith can get some willow on it.
It was a terrible decision on any assessment. When a batsman is that far down the pitch there is no way Dar could have been convinced with any confidence at all that the ball would have continued on to hit the stumps. His call should have been not out. The Saffers could have referred it and lost because it was lest to the umpire's original decision. That umpires decision was wrong. There was far too much doubt in Aleem Dar's mind. If there wasn't he should not be umpiring test cricket.

But it would be nice if Steve Smith started hitting the ball with his bat. His position as captain must be very close to untenable. His captaincy has been a train wreck for the last couple of years.

I'd have no problem if that was given not out by the umpire, but equally I had no problem with it being given out. Smith played across a straight one and was caught dead in front - height was the only query with him being down the pitch but it was ultimately proven to have not bounced above the stumps. Dar has made some shockers in the past but that was nowhere near a howler - it was a marginal call either way

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the decision, it was a very poor cricket shot to be played when not yet off the mark. Any chance that modern day batsmen can get their eye in early in their innings and play each ball with a straight bat and on its merits?

True. Might just dust off the GF DVD each time the Aussies collapse this summer. Will probably wear it out by the end.

Just hit the repeat button. There's gonna be a lot of collapses.

It was a stupid shot. It was hard to tell what he was doing with his feet. I thought it was a rhumba but my son thought it looked more like flamenco dancing.

Had he ever batted against marahaja before?

The technology couldn't confirm it, it was referred back to umpires decision.

Further, Neville was given out when the ball came off his pads, there was no inside edge onto pad, another shocker from Aleem dar.

I was looking into Mitch Marsh's career stats, thought I'd copy them for anyone interested:

                        M - Inn NO- Runs - HS - Avg - SR - 100 - 50 - 4s - 6s
                        19 - 30 - 4 - 600 - 87 - 23.08 - 53.86 - 0 - 2 - 66 - 11

                        M - Inn - Wkts - BB - Econ - Avg - SR - 5W - 10W
                        19 - 35 - 27 - 61/4 - 3.46 - 38 - 66 - 0 - 0

Aleem Dar has a perception problem. His attitude to the Australian test team has to be examined.

I have defended many umpires in the past because the game is what is really important but this has gotten past a joke.

Feel like a bit of a Judas, but won the quaddie on Oaks Day (or, more accurately a share there of) and rolled into $5.25 on the Saffas on Thursday evening...

At least you've got a reason to be happy about this then. Keating said "Always back self-interest because you know it's trying it's best."
