May have even been in a better position if Khan had not thrown his wicket away, shot of a bloke who has had enough and given up.

Disgraceful from Shah to not go into his ground. What an anti climax to all the hard work from your teammates to be so bloody lazy. Great from Smith to hit them though. 1-0.

I've never been able to explain it. Why we didn't enforce the follow on on a pitch that was playing tricks is beyond me.

Shoddy way to get out and a disappointing end to the test match.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It wouldn't be the Pakis unless they invented idiotic ways of getting dismissed in between moments of pure genius with the bat.

They might have won if they didn't need to get Smith out 4 times in the first innings or if they didn't allow Bird and Lyon to put on 49 for the last wicket.

Putting the follow on/not follow on issue aside, I think I was more agitated by the captaincy in the last session of day 4 where the ball regularly flew through the air to fly slip/third man, from a left handed tail ender facing Mitchell Starc.

Kerry O'Keefe was beyond exasperated when the ball was edged through a vacant second slip.

He is a very conservative, reactive captain seemingly happy to avoid making big decisions unless it's been run the team via some sort of committee method.

I didn't see the bit of play you are talking about but today Starc was too deep at mid off and there was a comfortable single for both batsmen with a simple defensive nudge off Lyon. Anyway Smith took three balls to wave Starc closer in while he wandered about asking every Australian fieldsman within shouting range what their opinion was. Pakistan took two singles and after the second Starc looked at Smith and waved his arms so Smith couldn't put off adjusting him anymore.

I thought it was a good test match between two pretty ordinary teams.

The least ordinary won it by being the least ordinary when it counted.
