    Options as Captain?

    Just a hyothetical but...

If for some reason Steve Smith couldn't tour India in Feb who would you like to see captain the Test side and who do you think the Australian selectors would pick?

I think Warner is the only other option.

Would like it to be Khwaja but it wont. He's mentally strong, a genuine test batsman and a thinking cricketer. Would be a good but very radical decision. It won't happen.

Plus having a Pakistani born Australian test captain playing in India would be pretty cool.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Is he really an option to captain a series?

They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Warner is best candidate based on security in the team and experience.

He's probably the worst person to pick to captian based on what you'd want from a captain though

I know he's a long shot but I wouldn't mind seeing a bloke like Cam White given a go. He's not in terrible form with the bat although he's not the steady as you go type batsmen that's needed first and foremost in prospective Australian batsmen at the moment. But in terms of leadership he's had lots of experience bad and good with captaincy. We could do a lot worse.o

Good player of spin too. Played plenty of t20 cricket in India.

It'd have to be Warner, there's no one else.

Handscomb has captained the Vics so may be one in a few years time

How about whoever misses out on the bulldog job between Bob Murphy and Easton Wood? They'd miss a chunk of the preseason but I'm sure the Austealian cricket team do some sort of training...

Say that Smith and Warner are both injured in a horrific tandem bike accident, who's the captain then? Or do we bring in a temporary captain like White to man the fort until Smith is back?

Now you're talking. Where do we get one of these horrific tandem bikes?

                          Re: Options as Captain?

While I think the selectors would go for Warner he's not the sort of player I'd want to lead the test team given he typically bats for himself and doesn't tend to curb his approach in any circumstances during a match.

Out of the shield players, George Bailey probably is the most natural leader although it would be hard to pick him on form
Voges has a great test batting average and would need to be a strong consideration
White's in form but just hasn't been in the mix for a test spot in years. We might sacrifice a lot of have him as the captain.

Left field considerations might be Henriques, Klinger or Hartley but there are bugger all emerging candidates.

I think the selectors would go with Warner but I'd consider Voges.

Bugger me dead. Adam Voges, Captain of Australia.

I was trying to think before who are the Shield captains ATM?
