What about his actions? Unhappy with the umpires' decision, he doesn't come out after tea and half an hour goes by.

I simply fail to see why Hair should cop the treatment he got. I probably shouldn't be saying this but Hair is not my best mate among the umpiring fraternity but this isn't about mates.

As for the comment that Hair only thinks about Hair, where does this come from? He pings a bloke who blatantly chucks and cops flack for it.They should have given him a medal.

At least he had the guts to do what is right unlike the administrators who cave into political pressure from the Asian bloc because of the financial muscle they wield.

Then he, along with his mate award a match under the Laws while the administrators including the referee all hide elsewhere unwilling to do anything about the disgraceful conduct of a Test captain who spits the dummy over a decision and refuses to come out to play.

This is precisely why the Law exists.

By the way, I hope my comments remain in this forum. We may need to move Merv into the Dog's Breakfast

I was just having a laugh about some fantastic discussion we had with Aker39 in the Jarrod waite thread about umpires just applying the rules, not making them.

FWIW, I agree with you entirely.

Daryl Hair has a history of doing things out of the ordinary, this was one of them , as you said the umpires just didnt come out after tea.
          That is just so stupid.
Wouldnt you sort it out at tea with the captain or captains? Team manager or whoever?
          Daryl is a looney.
I wouldnt just say it for one decision, we all make mistakes, but even his state umpiring days he did things that werent for the game, just to show his authority.
He also had a favourite state, which is not unlike the aussie selectors i spose.

It wasn't the umpires not coming out after tea, it was the Pakistanis.

Ok , but why wasnt it sorted in the break?
Australia and England have the best umpires by a mile over the years he was and is one who really damages that reputation.

                Agreed.

Two of the greatest characters in the history of the game have been Harold Bird and David Shepherd.

Whoever came up with the notion that umpires/referees should be seen and not heard obviously never came across these two.

Anyone who mankad's is a dog....

I played a few games of indoor with a few guys on here and BF last year and in my first game I got mankadded. I let the bloke know it was a ****ing low act in no uncertain terms.

If the only way you get a bloke out is via a mankad, well then you pack up your bat and ball and go and sit in the stands.

If I'm playing indoor I'll give a warning. Unless the guy in question is a complete tool, in which case I just say bugger it and run the bastard out.

What's the difference between a Mankad and a run out?

I'm sure when you take that quick single and make your ground by 2 inches you're pretty happy about cheating that extra yard at the other end.

You want to get a head start but you don't want to be run out? How does that work?

Chalk and cheese really, the acts are totally seperate.

One is a normal act in a game of cricket, the other is a low act.

The low act is cheating by leaving your crease earlier than you should.

I was always taught you should not leave your crease until ball leaves bowlers hand, thats fair to me.
Leave before and you do it at the risk of being mankad or run out as i call it, because you are in actual fact leaving your crease to make a run.
