Yep, he went from calling the Australian public idiots or morons or whatever it was to being the darling of the media. One thing that I like/d about Hewitt is he gave tennis away to go and play football at club standard. Imagine picking your man up at the start of the game and it's Lleyton Hewitt standing there! They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

I have no problem with either player. God gave them talent but it's up to them to make the most of it, they are letting nobody down but themselves.

If Kyrgios had half of Lleyton's work ethic he'd have won a grand slam by now.Comment

Barty just has two wins to become #1 after beating Venus Williams. An unseeded player in the semis, and likely the 8th seed in the final.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Wining a grand slam then a warm up tournament and then another grand slam will be tough to do.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

It's a good point. Kind of like winning the NAB cup. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Getting to and winning the final might just be 1 hour of extra play, beyond losing in the semis. I think the confidence of not losing for over a month is worth something heading into Wimbledon.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Barty plays Gorges in the final, who is ranked 19 in the world. She won't get a much better look at a number 1 world ranking. And then all the trappings that come with it; favourable draws, more centre court games, more prime time games, more great media, more big time exposure and the heap of sponsorship money that comes with all of that. I hope she can do it.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Tennis Grand Slams (French Open, Wimbledon, US Open)
I concur with your thoughts BT, but at the end of the day Grand Slam wins are more important than world rankings.
Win Grand Slams you become number 1, not the other way round. Although I do acknowledge by being number 1 in the world certainly gives Barty the best chance to win Grand Slams.
Either way, Go Ash and let the #BartyParty roll on.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

That's why she could be #1 and likely goes into the next grand slam as #1!

Yep, it's all academic as to whether she was better off losing or winning. The thing I really like about Barty (and I am no tennis fan, I only watch it because French Open/Wimbledon were the very few sports that were on prime time TV when I was a kid) is when she is interviewed it's always "we and us" and never 'I or me'. It's very impressive. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
